Is there a way for a mobile phone user to call a mobile number ie a vodafone 087 to get onto a SIP service. I get free vodafone to vodafone calls on my mobile plan, it would be great if i could access A SIP account via a mobile number! (even for a fee)

If if no companies offer this, do you have any ideas how i could do such a thing a from home? I know you can buy a nokia 32 pbx unit that could hook into some kind of home made asterix pbx. The nokia 32 are failry expensive but its the only thing that i could think of.

2N have a SIP - GSM gateway that will do this. €1800 a pop though. We have one, and we use it to pipe 08x calls from our landlines to the mobile networks. The device takes 4 SIMS, and allows rule programming so that you can select which SIM dials when it gets handed a call. Works seamlessly with an Asterisk box.

It will go the other way too, i.e. ring a SIM in the device, and it will pass it off to the Asterisk PBX.

There was a very interesting thread about the money savings and setups you could do with a GSM Gateway on this boards a few months back but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

    Have a look at ipdrum....

They have a low cost (£99 sterling + Vat)adaptor that's probably just what you need!

The ipdrum looks good .. It only seems to do skype, googletalk & msn.. I can’t see SIP or standard voip anywhere. Have I missed something?

Im sure you could set up some kind of Skype to SIP proxy thing..

Yeh, sorry I overlooked that. I have emailed the UK sellers with a question on this, but expect that other voip providers are not supported as they wern't for ipdrum's previous product either.

If you do go down this road and modify the software to handle other voip providers, please do share it with us.;)
