I don't know what connotations this will have for poker or if they will start showing any of the WSOP stuff on it. I think part of the reason that they might have bought it is because that channel already showed loads of baseball and American Football from EPSN as it was, so they might just want to control its broadcast in Europe themselves?

Then again I have no idea.

Well ESPN have spent a fortune on the TV rights to the WSOP and acquiring a subscription channel in Europe gives them another avenue to re-coup their investment.

Doesnt bother me, as a recent convert to baseball, but they wont let it be shown on free channels such as Bravo or Challenge much longer.

It's not a topic which is allowed to be discussed here but we are now in an era where you can watch pretty much whatever TV station you want streamed on your computer for free, particulary any sports station including America's ESPN and the many Asian versions of their station.

ESPN getting their greedy corporate mitts on anything is never a good thing. You may get more ESPN owned coverage but you wont get Fox and ABC or canadian/european coverage. Monopoly is never a good thing, we should have learned that already from the Eircom debacles...

As I understand it, Harrah's pay ESPN to record and show the WSOP. Party, Milwaukee, etc, pay Harrah's. I could be wrong.

Um, I dont think Harrahs pay anyone to film it, I'm pretty sure ESPN bought the exclusive rights. Can you honestly see Harrahs parting with a penny they didnt have to?

NASN has actually been forced into this move as ESPN refused to allow them to air any ESPN specific content for the last 9 months. NASN has had to rely on Canadian content and the scraps it can pick up from FOX and ABC. I am delighted with this news because the quality of NASN has dipped since the removal of the ESPN content.

I have been a subscriber to NASN for quite some time - this is excellent news!!!

    Hi Lloyd.

Did NASN not have rights to Hockey and NFL for Europe for the next couple of years.

Are you talking about poker programming or general stuff?

What was removed from their listing by ESPN?

    Thanks

The secret about American sports is that the NFL (while great) does not come close to the drama and spectacle that is college football. And the best sport of all (and the best sporting tournament of all - even better than the FIFA World Cup): belongs to college basketball.

I dunno, I love American sports and am delighted by this news.
I thought you were pretty normal. I don't now. American football is the worst sport ever.

I love baseball and college football. NFL is too 'moorketting' for my liking.

Dom if you have a spare Saturday and NASN are doing one of their freeview weekends then watch college football. Its great stuff. You really have to see baseball to 'get it'.

I don't mind baseball, and I have even been to a game (corporate box and all!!) and have apssed a few hours at random times watching it. Basketball I can cope with watching. American Football though I think is pure muck.

I was watching some america football in the fitz last night, have to say I find it pretty good to watch. Even without sound...

I am opposite, I watch the nfl every week but wouldn't watch college football.
In my eyes watching college football over nfl is like watching league 1 over the premiership
