problem with dvd burner

    hi!
    When I go to load any disc into my toshiba dvd writer I suddenly get an error screen and the only way around it is to reboot the pc,manually instead of start,shut down etc.
    is there anything i can do?

    Moving to Comp/Tech

    Could be the drive is busted does happen.

    Other suggestions;
    Replace IDE cable.
    Install NVIDIA IDE drivers lately ?
    Does the drive freeze on all media types or just one ?
    Install any new DVDRW related software lately ?
    Update the firmware of the drive.
    Remove the drive from the device manager & let Windows re-install it.
