Michael Bay...WTF?

Ok, I feel it only fair to warn you that this is basically a meandering, pointless thread, but it's on my mind.

What's the story with Michael Bay? Seriously? For some reason, I hate him. Actually I know why I hate him, he's a gimp. But I remember hating him for what seems like an eternity, yet while looking at his bio on imdb, I find that he's only directed 11 things. And four of these are: a documentary that I think was about Wilson Philips, two music videos (one for Lionel Richie) and a Playboy video (not sure what to think of this!). Can it be that I hate him after he's made 7 films, the earliest was in '95?

I honestly could have sworn that he made more films, that I hate. I just honestly can't believe there's only 7. I'm confused, upset and to be honest slightly sexually aroused by the Playboy video (and lets face it, Lionel Richie too! ). Anyone else shocked, worried, appauled? Or is everyone regretting opening this thread?

He's only directed 7 films, but if you count his role as producer, it's more. His productions usually have some no-name gimp director that Bay uses as a puppet.

I always thought Bay was a puppet for Bruckheimer, no? He's produced most of his films.

He was, but now Bay is the puppetmaster to other sub-puppets as it were.

But it's still only a handful, and only from recent years. I'm also a little sickened that he was involved in Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Granted, it says he was only a storyboard artist, but still. I feel dirty now.

Actually, if you want a laugh, check out his forum on IMDB. There are some serious fanboys and bizarre haters arguing on it. It's almost as funny as The Philidelphia Experiment forums that have guys claiming it really happened! :D

Say what you want about Bay, his films are never boring and most all have decant stories.

Well a decent story is not what I'd associate with Bay. He's great at action sequences, but that's as much credit as I'll give him.

The Rock, Bad Boys and Armageddon - enjoyable no-brainer stories + great action.

He may just be well-suited to bringing live-action TFs to the big screen.

    *sings*
I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark,
    When he made Pearl Harbor.
I miss you more then that movie missed the point,
And that’s an awful lot girl.
And now, now you've gone away,
And all I'm trying to say,
Is Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you

I was honestly singing that to myself when I wrote the original thread. The line "Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?" kept going over and over!

    The Island is enjoyable too!

Yea, despite the in-yer-face product placement, that was an enjoyable flick too.

    I 'heart' Armageddon.

Pearl Harbour almost cancels it out for me, but not quite. So Michael Bay still gets my thumbs up.

So I watched the only other Bay film I hadn't seen yet, on Ch5 last night, Bad Boys II. And found it to be a pretty enjoyable action flick.

Which means the only bad movie he's ever truly made (imo) is Pearl Harbour :)

pearl harbours not bad......... if you come in 90mins after it starts to avoid the chick flic aspect of it :D . i'll be honest i dont hold him in that high regard which is why i was concerned to hear he's doing the TRANSFORMERS flic (which i was really looking forward too)

that said he is a good action director so provided someone sticks a decent story in there it should still be a good flic, and with speilberg and the lads from xmen in there as well there is hope . i just hope we dont get too many gratuitous shots of an american flag draped over prime

Anyone interested to find out how he managed to put massive explosions (of the bomb-blowing-up variety) into a playboy movie?
