A few of us have been arguing lately about which is the better bike maker, honda or bmw? I reckon its Honda as bmw still have to prove themselves. Honda however are a well established, totally reliable machine makers.

    What do you think?

    erm,

A bit broad don't you think?
I mean, what are you comparing.
    What class of bike?
Is it the amount of units sold worldwide?

As an initial reply and totally personal opinion, I decree that Honda are boring but reliable, and BMW are for "D 4" bikers that have too much money so they decide to spend on overpriced unreliable crap.

Ive kept it vague to try get some debate going.

    I will kick off so!
BMW are so reliant on the brand selling the bike, they dont even put a BMW engine in the GS 650!!

Speaking of broad that's a pretty big brush you're using..
and I'm not from D4. The rest is true though.. :D

As for proving themselves, BMW have been making motorcycles since 1920, and 50% of em are still on the road (although, I'm pretty sure that it's mostly the old 50% that are still on the road).. Honda have been making motorcycles since the 1940s.

Don't other manufacturers get a look in or do we just assume they're crap?
    Suzuki, Kawasaki, Atari...

The other half made it home without breaking down :D

(an old joke usually applied to H-Ds)

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

I've owned a BMW ('73 r75/5) and a few Honda's. I prefer the Honda's just for shear reliability and quality. I don't have to worry about anything but riding with them. I'm sure there are other good bikes out there but I'll continue w/ Honda.

The Honda 50/90 wins hands down. Still see a few going about town.
