    hi guys
I am still pretty new to Macs but around PC's etc for years. My problem is that my broswers on my IMac (Intel) keep quiting?

I have firefox 2.0 but it just quits for no reason. Up to 7 or 8 times in ten mins?

I have repaired the permissions but this is really pissing me off now?

Any help or advice would be great

    Darren

Have you tried deleting the prefs and emptying the cache? Also have you installed any plugins that might be causing a conflict?

the prefs file! silly question but that is located in the Library/frefox folder called prefs.js? or is it a different file?

No extensions downloaded at all as the browser was installed yesterday.
This is also the same with Camino. Bloody thing keeps crashing

Its the plist file which is in /user/library/preferences/. It's called "org.mozilla.firefox.plist". Just type firefox into Spotlight and you'll find it.

But if its happening with other browsers as well its sounds like a bigger problem. Is it only happening on certain sites? Are you getting any error messages after the crash?

when it crashes i can get an error report, give me a few mins and i can copy one up for you. I have deleted the prefs file and just rebooted so i will see how we go.

A few more ideas in case:

Is your flash and java software up-to-date? A problem here could certainly cause all you browsers to crash.

Also it could still be a plug-in problem. All browsers use the same folder AFAIK so have a look in Library/Internet Plug-ins/, and there should be another in your user's library folder as well.

OK i did not know there were 2 plug in folders, i put both into the trash rebooted and so far so good.
I think though i will be buying an external drive to move my photos onto ASAP just on the off chance i have to rebuild mac macs HD

Yeah there are two Library folders, a system wide one in the root directory and another in your user folder.

Since you trashed the plug-ins, you may have to reinstall things like quicktime, java, flash, etc but doing a complete restore shouldn't be necessary on a mac. But its probably a good idea to have an external hd anyway for backup; I ordered one myself last week from komplett.
