Devices for someone with VERY poor eyesight

    Hi,

I hope this is the correct forum. I am looking for a device for a relative with extremely poor eyesight, to help her read and view photos etc.

I remember seeing a brochure for a device that seemed to have a monitor that could show a magnified and lit up version of what was on a screen below it - sort of like a projector. Does anyone know any sites I could check, or even what terms to google for?

    thanks,

    Eoin

Is your relative registered with the NCBI?

Also are they old, or young?

It sounds like you're talking about a CCTV to look at photos etc. I would suggest looking at the RNIB's website as they may know of stockists etc. Also, if your relative is registered with the NCBI they may be able to get an appointment in the low vision clinic and see the various low vision aids that are out there.

There are lots of things available these days to help with reading and looking at photos etc. so it should be easy to find something to best suit your relative.

    Amz,

Thanks very much for the response. My relative is elderly, and I think could be registered with various organisations. I'll check this out

The CCTV viewer / video magnifiers is exactly what I was looking for; I just didn't know the terms to search for!

    Thanks again,

    Eoin

    Hope you find something suitable.

With most of the CCTV things there are settings that allow you to change colour/contrast etc. to make images more sharp etc. so they can be very useful.

    Hope it works out!

Just got a very affordable one on eBay which looks to be a good compromise (massive money for the ones with an integrated monitor).

    many thanks for your help,
