Hi guys, haven't been able to post in quite a while as I've been totally snowed under with the new club, tournaments, courses and seminars. Anyway this seminar was held the last weekend of November and was one of the very best yet. Got a chance to go along on Sunday night after training to see Pete Crooke fight his retirement fight against Sakmongkol and there were some friggin great great fights on the card including Andy Howson and Liam Harrison against Petchek. Anyway I digress,

Friday night was a invitation only and covered Sayoc Tactical.

Saturday began with Tuhon Tom having a look at peoples abilities and had people work the 4 different types of tapping. Once he'ed seen the ability level was quite good we began to move into Phase 2 material and introduced striking from the initial tap. At this point I began to regret he didn't have an assistant with him on this trip as I was the crash test dummy for the weekend. We then transitioned to taking a secure postion and working various striking options. Once people had a reasonable understanding of their options focus mitts and Thai pads were introduced and people could begin to work their striking options in a more realistic way. Receiver grips were also worked on. These are effective ways of maintaining control over the weapon hand and although they are practised in a drill format Tuhon Tom emphasised the importance of been able to apply them randomly during a free-flow/sparring situation.

Sunday began with everyone running through Transitional Drills and Tuhon Tom reminding people to bear the OODA loop in mind. He showed how to troubleshoot problem areas and to recycle sections of the drills in order to install correct responces. Once again he emphasised once a TD is responsive gradually add the other TD's but you are always looking towards a freeflow situation asap. At this point while people were freeflowing within the confines of the TD's, Tuhon Tom suddenly grabbed me without warning and he feed various attacks leading into a freeflow situation. Man you really realise how FUVKED you are if someone with a weapon has ANY training as he gradually introduced strikes, grabs, clinches, sweeps while feeding me an assortment of knife attacks and me been thrown around the place like a rag doll. It also brought home the importance of conditioning as under stress like this you very quickly breath hard and become tired. Training modifiers were then introduced such as making both sides spin like crazy to induce dizziness and they then had to either feed or receive. Next callinistics, to induce exhaustion. We also worked common reflexive responces, to knife attacks, some of which are actually trained responces but not good ones. Overall, this seminar brought my own training to a whole other level and began to give us an insight to the depth of material within this system
