home structure

Okay, looking for a good setup for a home game. Usually our home games consist of 6/7 players and are cheap €10 rebuys as a few of the guys are pretty inexperienced and its just a bit of fun. But we're setting up a nice Christmas game and we should be able to manage getting 12/15 players and it will be a €50 freezout (possibly one rebuy or add on).

Firstly, whats the best way to manage the game over the two tables. I'm not really a fan of the shoot-out style, so it will probably be the usual method.... but I'm wondering what needs to be considered when moving someone. Is it easiest to do it randomly, or should there be thought in it (not have all big stacks on one table, not move a guy from blinds to blinds etc etc)

secondly, onto the structure. We should get the game started by about 8pm. So that gives a timeframe of about 6/7 hours. Would like to make it a game with lots of play in it. What would a good blind structure be? What should the starting stacks be?

I would like this to be a success...so hopefully we could get games like this going more often....so any advice on a good setup is welcome.
    cheers,
    j

Well, i'm organising a pub game for about 20 - 25 people at the moment... As far as i know, if you want to move a player from one table to another, you take the player that would be the next big blind and move him behind the big blind on the new table... I'm sure there is no rule on this as such, but it helps if it's not randomised.

I have stating chips of 3500, rebuys of 4000 and top ups of 5000, with blinds starting at 25/50 and increasing relitively slowly at the beginning, but pretty fast at the end (concidering it's a pub game.)

If you have a laptop you can get an array of software to set the game up. It will tell you what starting stacks to use, how long the blinds will be (alarms when the blinds go up). Not sure which software would be the best, but I'm sure someone from in here could tell you.

I run a home game for 4 hours every Friday night. Starting stack 2500 (re-buys for first hour, 2500 chips again). Blinds go up as follows

    25/50 - 30 mins
50/100 - 30 mins (no buyins after this level)
    75/150, 100/200, 150/300, 200/400, 300/600, 500/1000, 800/1600, 1000/2000, 1500/3000, 2000/4000 all 20 minute levels.

For 7/8 people this usually results in a 4 hour game. I'm sure you could adjust from there accordingly. But try get the software set up, it's very handy and you can keep a league too :)

Have a €20 FO for 35 players tonight.
Keeping it simple as is a reasonably friendly office game.

Tackle69 is correct in his player movement rule, I think this is a standard.

Player will be starting with €2000 in chips.
    Blind Structure:
    15/30 20:00-20:30
    25/50 20:30-21:00
    50/100 21:00-21:30
    100/200 21:30-22:00
    BREAK 22:00-22:20
    200/400 22:20-22:40
    300/600 22:40-23:00
    400/800 23:00-23:15
    500/1000 23:15:23:30
    800/1500 23:30-23:45
    1000/2000 23:45-00:00

Looking at this now, I might revise it (too many levels?) but you get the general drift.

I put a list detailing the order of winning hands at each table just in case anyone needs to brush up prior to the start.
I have a list of all starting players (seating positions) posted up on the wall and cross them off as knocked out.
I also put a price on the head of the previous winners (have run this a few times to date).

As there are 4 tables I assign a player to be the decision maker at the table and I make the final decision should it be required.
It's a friendly enough game so there usually isn't much hassle.

IM me if you need anything further and I could forward you some of the sheets & rules I use on the night.

    No worries...

    thanks for the info guys.
Tackle, I don't understand that rule... so you move the person who is the next BB. to the closest empty seat behindthe BB? You mean to the right of the BB? I would have thought to the left. Is that person not getting advantage of skipping the blinds if its too the right?
    hmmm

I like the structure gocall1, but since I have half the players and wish it to go till 2/3am I think ill keep the blinds a small bit longer.

peeko... brilliant.. actually remember seeing a post about those recently.. ill go have a look now. thanks.

You move them furthest from the BB to compensate for the disadvantage of being moved.

Yes it means that the player has a round of the table to acquint himself with the new players before he has to put chips into the pot.

This is the one i have. Thanks to TmB for recommending it to me. It is pretty good, and doesn't take long to download.

Some places have different rules or ideas. I played in a 250 game in eastwall recently. Down to two tables and a guy comes in and is told he's to come in as the bb(other seats were available) the reason given was he would have been BB if he stayed on the other table.

The SE have a crazy rule that you have to come in on the closest available seat to the BB. Absolute madness but there is no changing their minds on it!

That is crazy, im quite surprised.
I do kind of like the rule the SE have that you can come in on the sb and play the hand.

On the second last table in the SE during the November 200 game I was moved to the SB on a table. When I queried this to John, who had moved me, he insisted I could. It was the first time I have ever seen that.
