Presenter / Journalist Talent Pool in Irish Media

In a similar vein to Mike65's thread, but unwilling to hijack it, for Talent Pool wrt presenters and presentation, I feel that what we have got now are reporters conditioned in the art of media studies, and not real grafters or writers of stories. They write formulaic news.

When I hear reports on IRN or RTÉ or Today FM, I hear the same type of delivery, the same way of reporting the news, making it impossible to distinguish at times where you heard the report.

I know radio/tv news is meant to be impartial and balanced, but must the delivery and style of the news be the same, and still achieving an independent voice?

Also, on Newstalk, I see that on the Radio board and here, the presenters come in for flak about how good they are. Are we reaching the limits of good, experienced presenters, so that we have to put up with average-poor presenters? Has the explosion of local radio in recent years had this effect?
