Trying to play the xbox version of halo 2 on the 360, single player is fine.

When I try to sign in to live it says an update is available, ok.

    then I get an error.

The VGA HD AV cable does not support PAL 50 setting required bu this game. connect the comosite connect of your cable or use an advanced scart HD av cable.

    Any ideas?

Connect it via the component cable :)

You will need to connect to a TV with the other cable in order to download the update due to some daft checks that were made in the original xbox version. Once it is done though you can connect using the VGA cable again for actually playing the game.
