Does always have to be the same faces/voices? Are there not other who could be called upon to offer some clarity or comment on a given topic?

Robert Fisk, Moore McDowell, Patrick Cockburn, Dan McLaughlin, Brendan Kennan, Leo Enright, Bruce Arnold, Brian Feeney and a bunch of others who always seem to be availible or at least the only ones RTE etc has numbers for!

What chance some diverse views given that when say Fisk or McDowell speaks we already know the 'tenor' of what he was say.

    Mike.

I agree, Mike, its the same voices all the time. Imagine Bill O'Reilly being tackled by Aine Lawlor in the morning :D

I sometimes wonder if it's because the people putting the shows together want to make sure that the listeners know who they are. It may not sound very sensible but familiarity may sometimes seem more important than relevance! I suppose listeners too may want to hear what their preferred pundits have to say (even if they already know really).

Something like this was discussed on a blog post I wrote here. I think it would be good for everyone if the pundit pool was drastically expanded. You know who's going to be on before they even announce them. For subject x comes pundit y and on the other side is pundit z.

I fairness, there are a huge number of economists about. Every week Q&A seems to have a different one on. I actually miss Moore, I haven't heard from him in ages...excepting the times that I hav talked to him in person.

    Ah, now I get you:D

tbh, It's Ireland, most people would know one or two of these people. It's not like I know him well, we have only talked five or six times. I only mentioned him because he is one of my favorite commentators.
