I feel so old, can't believe he came to the club I used to go to and the worst of it, I went! :(

I went to see him. £6 a ticket.. Single was recorded in Cricket in Clontarf, my friend used to brag about having being there when it was made. So cool! :D

I was out the other night with some people only a few years younger than me, the DJ played it, most of the crowd went wild and my mates didn't know it. I felt really old!

what a bad tune,i just know thats going to be in my head all day tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,023 ✭✭✭il gatto

It was a bad remix of a bad song, rerecorded by a bad D.J. with stupid M.C.ing and a bunch of kids doing rugby chants. Hideous. Still turns my stomach when I hear it.

Im the biggest music snob yil meet (if you ever in some dive in town that decides to end the night with cheese like the theme song from Theres Something About Mary or ****e from 80s musicals like Grease, Im the drunk at the end shouting "wanker!" at the DJ and booing repeatedtly*), but nevertheless Maniac is a ****ing classic. 6 years and 20- something age group on, if it gets a spin when Im on the lash Ill dance till I collapse. I think it pretty much is the preserve of the under 24s though.

And what about N Trance Set You Free? "In a stayyyte, of ecsstasssyyy" *cue the crowd shouting "yups yups yups!"* :) Good times

*: Students night? They should all be shot :D Appaling taste

Yes. Students. Grubby little tramps with no taste in anything. Especially clothes. But ESPECIALLY music. (A la Sideshow Bob)

Yea, I hate that cheesy sh1t, in Barcode it's La Bamba, Build me up Buttercup and euggghhh... I Would Walk 500 Miles! Fukn hate that! I'm like "Play some Faithless/ Prodigy/ Chemical Bros you lousy f**k...!!!" I like it when they play No Limits though. :)

I love Maniac, reminds me of being 16 and dancing like a mad loon in sweaty clubs full of knack kids... Good times... I wish they'd play it now still, but I'd be of the 5% of 20 somethings that remember it! *sigh*

Remember it was number 1 on Top 30 Hits for like a 10 weeks and another 11 in the charts. "Total sales in Ireland are unknown, but IRMA rate it as the fourth highest selling song since data began in 1962!" I didn't buy it though..

N Trance Set You Free is actually a pretty classic song...Maniac? Hated it then.. projectile vomit when i hear it now. I cant see how anyone would ever associate that song with something positive. ah each to their own i guess

I love when they play the 90's compilation in barcode, does make me feel very old tho.

LOVE maniac. Was also there for the recording.

Just something about it. Not my "normal" type of music, just some cheese-arific songs really make me dance cos it reminds me of simpler times when i was younger and on scout camp!!

a quality tune so it is, anyone who slags the maniacs gets a loaf, wha!

Ugh no *shudder*! Used to work in a club where this was always played at the end of the night by one particular DJ.

Maniac = Crazy frog for my generation.

Oh Dear, is this really Retro...? Seems like only yesterday...

/fade to images of awkward spotty youth doing the dancefloor sidestep to get close to pretty dancing girl who in turn does dancefloor sidestep to beefy older boyfriend who in turn does dancefloor tapdance on spotty youth's head...those were the days :(

Great song tbh, but Retro? WTF? How the hell is 2000 retro?

used to go the Deep disco in Stillorgan and this was played, before it was a single. The had the 'Miss Maniac' dancing competition. Thems were the days alright.

"Retro is a term used to describe the culture of the past" - Wikipedia

"“Retro” suggests a half ironic, half longing consideration of the recent past. It has been called an “unsentimental nostalgia”"

Maniac makes me wish I was 16 again, though I cringe when I hear it, I still love it...

And it is a defining song in many peoples memories of teenagedom. When it comes on and a whole generation of new teenagers have no idea what it is, I feel old, at the grand age of 22!

Worst MC-ing I've ever heard, worst lyrics, & an overall embaressment.

it is a load of ****

N-Trance - Set You Free, now that's a ditty you can get on down to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭marshmallow

Ah you can't go wrong with Maniac, was played the other night and everyone went mental.

Think my bro was at the recording.. Just up the road from me..

2000 is too recent to be classed as retro.

Maniac 2000 is an atrocity. I haven't said that because I'm a music snob - I like loads of tacky shíte - but because it has no merits whatsoever - not even cheesy merits. It's not even possible to like it in a tongue-in-cheek way. That's how bad it is.

But as for the original Maniac from the Flashdance soundtrack? Now THERE'S a choon...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭Big Tone

2000 is not retro, however if you were to mention 2000 AD the comic book now that would be retro, or even Michael Sembello with the original and still the best version of Maniac from 1983.
