Play-Asia... Whats the story?

What is the story with this play-asia web site? Had a look on it and it seems pretty cheap, so I have a few questions.
Will the games work over here?
Are the games real or cheap knock offs?
    How much does postage cost?
Are there any other hidden costs?
How long does it take to deliver them to Ireland?
Do you have to pay tax on the games when they're delivered?

    Thanks :D

Only the ones that are region free. If you go into Xbox 360, and then games by version you can select region free which will show you all the games that will work here. I think also Gears of War is region free but they're not telling anyone about it.

Are the games real or cheap knock offs?

    Real

    How much does postage cost?

    About $3

Are there any other hidden costs?

You may get charged duty by Irish customs but it hasn't happened to me yet. Order everything individually and keep all orders to under $50 is your best bet. Apart from that, no. It costs what it says it costs.

How long does it take to deliver them to Ireland?

It used to take 2 weeks but as of late it's only taking about a week.

Do you have to pay tax on the games when they're delivered?

    Like I said above

The us and eu versions are region free but the asian version is the one you want to get as it's the cheapest. Usually they are completely like the American versions, everything in English. But the cover of the Asian version of gears of war has chinese writing on the front. Other people on this forum have got it and it works on European consoles.

Can someone just sticky this one? Or make a play-asia faq and sticky it?

You'll be fine in getting passed customs as long as you only ever order one game at a time. Do not think of saving a couple of quid on postage costs and getting them to ship you two games at the same time as you are then likely to get stung.

Dropped play-asia a mail about my copy of tony hawks, got a friendly mail from them apologising and saying that it would be shipped out today. about an hour later i got a mail with an invoice and another with a shipping confirmation....Good stuff!!

ive ordered 4 games off them in the last few months, never had any trouble nor got stopped for customs.

Yeah I know that but with the supposed crack down on play.com some of use were not too sure if the same applied to play-asia.

So if I chose to start a paypal account would I be able to buy stuff without needing a credit or debit card?
Would the money just come out of my bank account?
    and
Would there be no extra transaction fees?

Afaik you cannot deposit funds from an Irish account into paypal. I think it only works if your taking money from your PayPal account. You could try one of those V3 cards. I think you can buy them at 3 shops.

if only I knew what a V3 card was

I only heard about the customs issue after I put in an order, and quite a ****ing big one at that! I ordered F.E.A.R, prey, splinter cell:double agent and the 4 disc FF9 OST from them, adding up to a total order of around 140 Euros.......Ya know what the sweet thing is?? I got away with it! Not a mention of customs, am I a lucky MoFo or what? Fluke!!! :D
I'll be defo ordering singly from now on!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭Hail 2 Da Chimp

You ARE a lucky MoFo :D

Maybe they missed it on their checks as they figured no-one would be daft enough to place a single order that big and they would mostly be looking at the smaller packages for catching people out on.
