Gamecube - What Will You Do With Yours?

So the Wii is coming out and soon the Gamecube will be become a high tech door stop for most. I was just wondering what people plan to do with their GC after they get their Wii? I know alot of people just put it away somewhere, disgusted at the thought of throwing any console out.

I've been toying with the idea of gutting the machine and modding it somehow, perhaps into a fancy beer cooler? (Although its a bit small for that). Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm just going to pack it away back into it's box like I have with every other console I have owned. There isn't really much modding you can do that leaves the machine working afterwards so I won't be bothering with anything like that.
After all it has spent it's time since being opened being the most reliable console it can be.lol why get rid of it?It's usually the sentimental factor that makes me keep my old consoles.Just like I'll keep my PS2 when I get my PS3.

Yeah, I guess I will be hanging onto it for the time being anyway.

Mine will stay where it is with my PS2 and N64. I have a small room so the Wii will be in the living room where we can all jump around flailing our arms wildly to our hearts content without crashing into things. That way I can still play my Qoob games in my room.

I'll probably pass it onto my girlfriend's little brother or a young relative... pass the torch if you will :D
That said, I can be sure that in 10 years time I'll re-purchase one on eBay for the memories, even though the Wii is a Gamecube in every way it needs to be (plays the original discs, uses the original controllers etc.)... I mean, even if every NES and N64 game became available on the Wii I wouldn't get rid of those two babies... although that's partly because of the original controller issue.

More than likely Freeloader won't work with the Wii so if I want to play my Import games that I still haven't played or bought yet I'll need the Gamecube.

im giving mine to a charity shop convinced some friends to do the same think its the way to go, plus a few games and a controller.

Mine is going back into it's box and put up onto the shelf with my seven other older Ninty consoles...to be brought out again once I finish building my house and have a Nintendo room! ;)

I'm pretty sure Freeloader has been confirmed to work with Wii.

I'll probably give it away to someone. Friend or family if they want it, charity shop otherwise.

Although I'll be hanging onto most of my games and controllers, so not the most amazing give away really. The fact that the Wii plays GC games makes hanging onto the 'Cube a bit pointless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

In that case hanging onto any of the cartridge playing consoles is also pointless when you take Emulators into account.Just by a PC controller as I have and it's the exact same experience. But I still kept my Sega and SNES etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

It's a lot easier and nicer to put in a disc / cartridge and play with the intended controller than it is to get an emulator working, find the roms, and find a PC controller that doesn't suck.

Not that I've hung onto my older consoles either (although the N64 might be about somewhere), but the Wii plays GC games just as the GC did - so really, no point unless you're 'collecting' them. Which I'm not.

Freeloader and Action Replay work with the Wii... 1up confirmed in one of their newer videos ('breaking the Wii' is think).

I'll keep mine and get Zelda for it. Might get a Wii if anything good comes out for it.

What charity shop? I live near Waterford.

Keeping mine, it's less risky than bringing a Wii to college when I'm running Nintendo nights for Gamesoc.

I'm keeping all my old consoles as a collection.
I mean it would be kinda cool to show your kids what consoles were like back in all the generations we have played through.

I'll be keeping mine for the moment, not sure whether I'll get a Wii or not. Supposed to be saving for a house with the missus, so no unnecessary expenditure and all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,881 ✭✭✭Kurtosis

I really would like to say I'm doing something self-less like giving it to charity, but I'm afraid I'm too selfish :(

I'm going to hold onto it for now, but a few years down the road I may give it to a cousin of mine (once he becomes old enough for a console).

Keeping it, I couldn't part with my purple little cube-with-a-handle

Your purple little lunchbox with a handle!

Actually, that's a great use for the GC now! Haha, all those stupid Sony fanboys who slagged it when it came out are really gonna be jealous of our lunchboxes now :)

Same. N64 and PS2 (aka dvd player) and GC will be in my room. Sure I still play the GC, we had a Mario Kart tourny yesterday that resulted in an overtaking on THE FINISH LINE! The madness!

We're having a ninty gamesfest on friday night aswell, gettin out all the nintendo mplayer consoles. Tis gonna be great.

I'll be keeping min where it is. Just got Fire Emblem (thanks Retro) and will be getting Zelda on the GC. If a killer app comes out for the Wii then I will happily invest in it (@€;249 it's not that much).

And I can tell you, there are MANY hospitals etc containing children who will be spending xmas in hospital who would also appreciate such donations.

I have a limited edition Panasonic Q (the cube & dvd player), which cost me close to €600 at the time. I'll be keeping hold of it seeing as though its the only cube that can play dvd's too (well until Wii 2007 is released anyway)

Mine will probably go the way of my N64, off to a charity/orphanage with some of the less played games and two controllers!

have given it to my little sister, who is an obsessive monkeyball fan.

went over at lunch and set it up in her room, quite neatly hidden away, so hopefully she'll see it later and go 'wtf!'
