Acidic sweat!

Okay not as bad as Rory G's but I noticed ages ago that the paint on the hardware on my Ibanez is gone from wherever my hands would be. It's the kind of matt grey finish. I'll post pics tomorrow if required. That doesn't wory me so much as it looks good imo.
What does worry me however is that the chrome finish on the volume control on my G&L is starting to show signs of wear on the knurled (grippy) part. Can't post pics of that for a few weeks as I'm away from my G&L at the mo. Okay it may only be a volume knob but this guitar is all original and in otherwise mint condition. Anybody else heve any problems like this? A simple wipe down doesn't really help as the wear seems to be starting in the depressions. I'd need to go at it with a cotton bud or something! I don't want it ending up like the knobs on the P-bass which have no chrome left on the sides at all.

It's called mojo. It's a good thing. Strangely enough, it might even add value to your instruments.

Also, wash your hands before playing.

The only thing I could tell from those pix is that you could do with a new camera for Christmas. ;)

AFAIK if your sweat makes the unwound strings turn black and tarnished after a few days use then you have acidic sweat, other than that it may be just normal wear.

Har har. That's my stoopid phone. Best I could do at short notice. Strings don't go black. Must be just run of the mill wear then. I'd have expected more from something costing the best part of a grand. As for the G&L, well that's really annoying me.

I'm sure a new replacement knob would be very inexpensive.

    How about these guys: http://www.axesrus.com/

There's a worn patch just beneath the strings between the bridge and neck pickup on mine. My ring and middle finger rest there while playing. Also my little finger sometimes curls slightly under the hign e string which can lead to spots of rust developing under there quickly.

    Rust is the Devils work

Does it look like this? If not, you've no need to worry. Play the guitar, don't worry about small blemishes, it's designed to sound good, not to withstand the ravages of time otherwise they'd paint them with Ronseal 5 Year woodstain :)

I've read that WD40 is really bad news if any of it soaks into the wooden parts of your guit.
3-in-1 oil might be better for rust.

Personally, I'd love it if my guitar looked like that.

Giving the guitar a good rub down after you use it is the best :p
