Does anybody know what is proposed here? Can't seem to find any information on it anywhere.

I hope they are going to continue the bus lane onto the N4 as a seperate lane rather than having it merge with the traffic that is queuing.

which shows it exactly as it is at present.

Thats not what it looks like. Thats computer mock up of what it will look like. Notice the 3 lanes heading towards the west and town. Also the west bound slip road is 2 laned.

Looking at it more its totally different to what it is now.

My house is in the back round too.

Thanks - impossible to find anything on that site. Major impovement, I assume the left lane onto N4 is a dedicated bus lane, wouldn't mind seeing further onto the N4 as hopefully the bus lane merges after the normal traffic lane and doesn't have to queue with the merging traffic.

    Ehhh, just to clarify...

This junction is currently being modified under ORR (Phase 2), due to finish completion next year. You might find a graphic of the junction layout at this web site: http://www.sdcc.ie > Roads > New Road Schemes > ORR Phase 2 (some of the navigation on the website seems broken at the time of writing)

The N4 Upgrade scheme, a completely separate project, is due to start construction next Summer. That is what is graphically represented in the link from Ice_Box...

This graphic cannot be treated as definitive, as, for example, it does not show the new pedestrian bridge which has already been opened.

I don't expect any significant change with ORR/N4 junction when ORR (Phase 2) complete. It will take the N4 Upgrade project to sort it fully.

[Edit: corrected to ORR Phase 2]

I´ve made complaints. Try google site "site:www.sdcc.ie" at the start of the search.

Also note from the graphic the green bit in the middle is gone. Im so often tempted to just drive up on this and skip the 6km queue thats there every morning.

I think they are getting rid of the central reserve to make it 3 lanes

Is the planned N4 widening scheme going to remove all traffic lights between the M4 and the N50. If yes/no is this scheme part of the overall plan anyway? my thoughts again run to the possibility of bringing the motorway in a few junctions in the Dublin city centre direction.

    A few notes.

Yes, all traffic lights will be removed. As for upgrade to motorway, this isn't really possible. There will be several points at which pedestrian footpaths will still be right next to the road, so pedestrians and cyclists cannot be excluded without undue loss of amenity. In addition there will be a small number of places where frontage access is allowed.

It should be noted that in the original designs for the road, put on display in 2002, access control was total and all pedestrian and cyclist facilities were offline. Work was supposed to begin in 2003. What happened was that the designs were redrawn and rereleased in about 2005 with less control of access and the footpaths left intact. An example of a parallel road that was in the original plan but missing from the redrawn ones was the road in the attachment, a restoration of the old Leixlip-Lucan road.
