FTV vs FTA

I have all the FTA channels at home and from what I can gather I can buy a FTV card on ebay and it will give me more channels.

Anyone know what these FTV channels are?

You can't buy them (legally) on ebay. eBay take them down. The Cards belong to Sky/NDS.

However...
Sky will send one for a fee of £21 to any UK/NI Postcode address. There are people who will do this for you. It isn't illegal to use one here as long as you give it back to Sky if they ask for it.

The only channels it gets is C4, Five, Five Live, Five US and possibly Sky3.

C4 is now (mostly) on a ROI variety Sky pack and Sky3 may be working even on a cancelled Irish Sky card.

The FTV (offically called "Freesat from Sky") card only works in a Sky Digibox.

Is Five US free to air.

At the moment it is being broadcast FTA (but not receivable on an Irish Skybox)
This probably will not last that long.

according to Lyngsat its at, 12422H, 27500, 2/3. all I have there is Men and Motors, can anyone confirm Five US is still there. TIA

It is not called 5 US, but tagged as 7505

I get the $ sign, then it says the channel is scrambled but it then appears as clear as a bell, full strength, any clues ?

Some websites sell the "Freesat from Sky" cards, eg satone.tv as eBay do remove listings including one of these cards.

Broadcasters can Mark a channel scrambled when it isn't also Sky Music choice usually marked Clear but is Scrambled.
