Saw all sorts of cars badged Volkswagen in Argentina. See pictures:Escort =VW Pointer, Cortina/Taunus Estate =VW 2000, Chrysler Avenger= VW 1500. Strange but true. Also a fascination in Argentina and Uruguay for putting boots on hatches: I saw a Renault 4 with a boot on-unfortunately didnt have camera at the time. Did get pics of Toyota Yaris -booted, and Opel Corsa-previous version also booted. Are there psychological reasons for popularity of booted cars in some countries and estates in others, I wonder. And a strange use for Citroen Traction Avant. Poor Renault Dauphine in bad repair. Worth going to Argentina and Uruguay for the cars.

Small cars with boots are very popular in Asia and South America. They dont appear to have a market here but thats probably because Europe is saturated in Hatchbacks. You will probably see some Eastern European registered cars such as a Fiat Siena/Albea which is a Punto with a boot and probably a Renault Thalia/Symbio which is a clio with a boot.

Heres one you havent seen here, a fiesta with a boot from Brazilfiesta_flex.gif

umm we buy more small saloons than most european countries, focus, bora/vento/jetta, polo/fabia, corolla etc etc etc,

you see much fewer of these saloon variants on the continent or in the UK than you do here in ireland

Same in Australia nissans, mazdas badged as fords, gm badged as toyota, toyota isuzu as GM - its all down to market perception and dealerships i presume.

Another country where you see lots of older cars still in everyday use is New Zealand.

I spent six months working/living there in '04 and saw lots of RWD Starlets, Corolla K30s, etc still in everday use.

I bought/drove a tidy '88 Bluebird during my stay there. Drove the length and breath of both the North and South islands without a hiccup! Great car!

    My NZ 'bird' .....

I think that Volkswagen are building saloon and estate versions of the Fox....
The same styles are used in the Opel Corsa and Peugeot 206. There was also a saloon version of the Renault 5 built in Spain as the Renault 7. Seat never added boots to hatchbacks at that time, they tended to stick 2 extra doors into any Fiat they built under licence such as a I27, 850 and 600.
