i have one of those chinese vox ac30s and it has been 100% reliable as long as i've had it. But tonight, i turned the standby switch on and it made a crackling noise and after a few seconds, the standby light went off. the fuses are okay and it's less than a year old and it has been used only semi-regularly so it's probably not tubes. it also hasn't been moved since i've had it.
any ideas. bringing it back to the dealer will be a pain, so a pointer or two would be appreciated.

theyre pretty unreliable in my experiance. the guitarist in my my band swears by his but he's had it in and out of the shop quite a bit. first it was the tubes and then it was some sort of loose connection.

    great amps but very unreliable.

its not the kind of amp i'd crack open and look about inside i reckon taking i back is your only option. hope its within warranty!

So it's stuck in standby? What happens when you turn it back on - does it just stay in standby mode?

i planned to turned it on to standby for the customary minute or so. i flicked the standby switch and the red light came on. after a moment, i heard a clicking sound for a second or two and i looked at the amp again and the red light had gone out. there is now no life at all in the amp. no lights when switched on and no sound.

There are three ways to break the circuit that powers the mains light:

    1. Blowing the mains fuse

    2. Disconnecting a wire or contact anywhere between the IEC socket, the power switch, the mains fuse, the mains light, and the power transformer.

    3. Damaging the power transformer in such a way that resistance of the primary coil becomes infinite.

To be honest, I think most failures of the PT would result in a short which would blow the mains fuse, so you're probably looking at number 2, if you're sure the fuse is okay.
