Crematorium in Cork

Interested to know what people think of the new crematorium in Cork. On the TV3 news, they claimed that 20% of bodies go for cremation. In the UK this figure is as high as 80%. Is cost really a major factor for deciding on burial v cremation or is there a different reason?

Seriously though, for us Athiests, it's a boon! I don't want to take up ridiculous amounts of space on the planet when I'm gone, and this way, if my family want to visit me, they just have to go to the other room where I am in a little jar (But I'll probably be spread over a girls secondary school or something equally as pervy).

True, the older generation of catholics still stick by this, it was actually banned by the catholic church up until 1963, and while it's allowed now they still prefer burial.

Well, enviornmentally, Burial is better. No waste of fossil fuels.
And your body contributes to the ecosystem.

I just do not like the idea of being burned when I die, the idea of my body being part of the soil and eventually helping grass or flowers grow sounds romantic.

...yes but if your body is embalmed you're also dumping some toxic chemicals into the environment.

Embalming is not the norm in this country, unless the body is going to be held for a long period of time before the funeral.
