Okay, so I want to change my desktop computer into a media centre one.
    At the moment I have:

    Dimension 4600i
    Pentium 4 3.06GHz with hyperthreading
    512MB Ram
    DVD +RW
    80GB Hard Drive & 320gb external
    NVidia Geforce FX 5200
I have this tv tuner card
Some sort of SoundMAX integrated sound card
    Windows XP Home SP2
Basic dell speakers and 17" flat panel dell monitor

For the software, I was looking at http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=324864&view=detailed

Is this all suitable and/or what should I get extra?

The spec is fine anyway, more than enough for a media centre.

What sources do you plan taking TV from? Cable? Satellite? Not sure on the compatiblity of the card with MCE so check it out. Also bear in mind that you cannot mix sources with MCE.

Also have a look at Media Portal and GB-PVR. Both are free and do the same job. I use GB-PVR myself with a similar enough spec to yours.

I plan to use terestrial but then move up to sky...how would it look if I connected it to a conventional tv...

By the way, what other programs can work with my tv tuners remote? Accidentaly, I found out that media player works with it...

Depends on the TV (often referred to as a standard definition TV, SDTV for short) if your SDTV has an s-video input make sure you use it for the PC. You will probably end up using something like 800x600 or 1024x768 as a resolution.

As for the tuner not sure but apparently some posts here seem to indicate it is compliant with MCE but I'm still not entirely convinced.

Per the remote usually a limited range of software is programmed into the drivers so not much bar the basics.

The MCE remote is tied to the OS and performs the functions for that so you will require it if getting MCE as your current tuners remote will not work with it.

    {That's strange the MCE remote is missing from Komplett & Dabs but OcUK still has them but it does not say if you get the USB IR receiver with it}

Small and squishy is how I would describe it. Though I've never actually watched TV on my PC via the TV (does that make sense?).

GB-PVR and Media Portal probably would.
