[controversial, but - 'useful' name&shame idea]

Got my first non-paying eBay buyer in 7 years. The defaulting eBay buyer is most definitely Irish and based in Dublin (I have all details, name & address from the eBay interface), has not responded to my invoice, or the following friendly reminders including a (still friendly) last-chance-before-action reminder, or to an official dispute procedure lodged with eBay 7 days ago. The buyer had 23 positives, and I can name him as (eBay user ID) thai_shop since it is public information.

So... would it be an idea (and/or legit, at that?) to sticky a list of ebay non-paying Irish bidders?

I dunno if there's much point in doing that if you can shame them in their feedback and give the buyer an unpaid item strike. If that buyer doesn't respond at all to your dispute, you can leave negative feedback without fear of receiving a negative rating in return. The buyer can leave a negative comment but eBay will remove the rating in these cases.

Have you thought that perhaps there is a genuine reason for his silence, that something unfortunate has happened, maybe he had a car crash or something awful has happened in his family that needs his attention more urgently than Ebay. I know it probably isn't like that but things do happen to people that we aren't aware of.

You can't really justify doing anything else than claim your fees back, leave negative feedback and block him from bidding on your auctions in future.

I've got a non-paying bidder at the moment (feedback of 4 in Scotland), after 7 days of ignoring my invoice, reminder invoice, she says her switch card is out of date and doesn't know how to change it with Paypal !!

She's accusing me of being rude for sending her polite reminders and starting proceedings with Ebay. She won't pay I'm sure, I'll end up leaving her negative feedback and she'll probably do the same to me out of spite but there you go.

Sorry, I don't do 'nice' or 'not nice'. It's business.

I have indeed thought that the buyer might have fallen under a bus. Turns out he has bought at least more item on eBay since, so I don't think he's impaired or strapped for €s.

And, with respect, you're daft not to proceed with an eBay Dispute in your case: after 8 days of lodging the dispute, you can leave her a nice big fat negative feedback, but she won't be able to do the same to you

So, thx for the advice but I believe you should follow mine instead ;):p

I did open a non-paying bidder dispute with Ebay, as soon as I was able to, that is part of what she is complaining about, that I've started proceedings. Still no payment, I will offer the auction as a second chance after 8 days.

I've been on Ebay for 4 years and have had 5 or 6 non-payers but I wasn't aware that she won't be able to leave "tit for tat" negative if I leave it for her once the dispute is closed. Thats great news.

I wasn't aware that she won't be able to leave "tit for tat" negative if I leave it for her once the dispute is closed. Thats great news.

After you've closed the dispute unilaterally 8 days after starting the Dispute procedure, you then post negative feedback. Whatever she replies (in feedback or otherwise) will neither be published by eBay on your feedback nor count towards your feedback total (from the Dispute FAQ page, as follows).

    unpaid item process FAQ
    4) Closing the dispute

The seller can close the dispute after the buyer has responded at least once, or if the buyer does not respond within seven days. A seller can find all Unpaid Item disputes they have filed in their Dispute Console. The seller has several options to close the dispute:

We've completed the transaction and we're both satisfied. With this option, the seller does not receive a Final Value Fee credit and the buyer does not receive an Unpaid Item strike.

I no longer wish to communicate with or wait for the buyer. (Available 8th day after dispute is filed or once the buyer responds) With this option, the buyer receives an Unpaid Item strike, the seller receives a Final Value Fee credit, and the item is eligible for a relist credit.

We've agreed not to complete the transaction. (Available after the buyer responds at least once) With this option, the buyer does not receive an Unpaid Item strike, the seller receives a Final Value Fee credit, and the item is eligible for a relist credit.

A dispute can only be open for 60 days after the transaction date (i.e. the date when the buyer commits to buying the item and the seller commits to selling it). If the seller has not closed the dispute within 60 days, it will be automatically closed. When this automatic closure takes place the seller does not receive a Final Value Fee credit and the buyer does not receive an Unpaid Item strike.

    Feedback and Unpaid Items

If a buyer does not respond to an Unpaid Item notification and the seller closes the case with an Unpaid Item strike, the buyer can still leave a feedback comment about the transaction, but any feedback rating they leave will not appear and will not count toward the seller?s feedback score.

An eBay administrative note will appear under the buyer?s feedback comment, explaining that the buyer did not participate in the Unpaid Item process.
Unpaid Item strikes do not affect a user's feedback score or member profile.

    WHOAH! Not entirely true...

In situations where you've closed an Unpaid Item Dispute and the buyer didn't respond AT ALL, the buyer CAN leave you feedback but eBay will automatically remove the feedback rating (positive, negative or neutral). So the comment remains but the rating is removed. This was introduced almost exactly a year ago.

Well sometimes being nice is worth the effort, my lady has finally paid by Paypal so I've cancelled the non-paying bidder action.

I sell short breaks at my B&B amongst other things so its quite awkward when you meet people in person if you've got off on the wrong foot, I try to deal with people in a way that I would like to be dealt with myself :)

ambro, if you have been on ebay 7 years, you will know how futile this thread is.
There are two chances that anyone reading this thread will ever actually have any contact with the ebay user you mentioned.
Its unlikely that anyone will even glance at any of this persons items.
In fact, by putting the username here, you are actually increasing the chance that someone will look him/her up and buy an item...
