Old age non-contributory pension

My parents are undergoing a very painful separation procedure at the ripe ages of 65 and 66. My mother will be applying soon for the Old Age non-contributory pension. She will hopefully receive a cash settlement from my father. However I have read that if she has more than 20,000 Euro in savings that the size of her pension will be reduced. This appears very unfair as how could a 66 year old woman be expected to run a house on less than E185 a week?. The house may have to be sold. However I wish to establish the facts, however unfavourable. Any help would be greatly received.
    Thanks, Alan

I receive a contributory old age pension, and I am still working. My Wife will qualify for non-contributory old age pension in April of this year. Can anyone tell me how her claim will be assessed or how much she will receive. I am retiring in June of this year
