    Hi,

My brother has wireless broadband from Irish Broadband breeze 2m down and down.
Now the problem is I get a time out error when I try to ring a number. If I hook the same computer up to my broadband provider(Chorus), it works no problem at all, so I assume the problem lies with Irish broadband and its wireless.

    Anyone have similiar problems?

    no problem at all.
can you describer your router / ata / pc / ibb setup in more detail.
i have ibb going into a router
one of the ports on the router has the ata connected.
then a normal phone connected to that.
    it works perfectly

It could be IBB, but does your brother have a router and have you tried that with your setup. I've got Breeze and I've signed up to Blueface a few weeks ago with no probs at all (well except for when I'm maxing out my connection with downloads, it goes crackly on the phone then).

Edit. It took me a while to reply and Subway got there first. My setup is exactly the same as his.

    Well,

For the VOIP he is using smartfone software installed on his pc and an ordinary headset and mic. He is just testing VOIP before he spends a bit of cash and go the whole hog and get a router and plug in an ordinary fone and get a local number.

IBB is wireless in the area (breeze) with an antenna on his house, piped in wired to a modem and then into his pc. Its basic enough, no routers or anything.

I took the pc and plugged it into my broadband provider and it worked no problem, even tried it on dial up to see if it would work and it did but you could not use it.

IBB says there is no problem so my back is to the wall
The pc is old Compac P3 566 mhz with 512 ram but I assume this should not have a bearing on this and as well it works off my broadband provider.

does he have a firewall program installed on his pc?
if he doesnt he needs to do that straight away.

if he does check that its configured properly.

    Cheers Subway,

He has zonealarms and I have even switched it off as I did think this could have been stopping it and then I thought why does it work with another provider and not with IBB

zone alarm stores settings for each network it connects to separetely doesnt it?
it might be ok when connected to yours, but blocked on his.

    Guys

I have exactly the same issue, I can rule out Zone alarm and the router. I have bypassed both during testing. I have also tried another SIP service over the connection so its not blueface. Its either a IBB network/routing issue or its a PC issue. I dont know how to figure out what exacxtly is wrong ??

Why not try use bluefaces free trial and download eyebeams xlite and test the softphone connection over your brothers IBB connection? that way at least you will narrow it down to either a connection or pc/software issue
