    Hi,

I'm a noob to laptops...only had one before and that was a pretty basic Compaq Presario. Saw this deal on the Dell website though:

    DELL INSPIRON 1300

    Intel® Celeron® M Processor 380 (1.60 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 400 MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition, SP2 (incl Operating System Re-Installation CD)
Collect & Return, 90 Day Service only
14.1" Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display
    512MB 533MHz Single Channel DDR2 SDRAM (1x512)
    40GB (5,400rpm) Hard Drive
    CD-RW and DVD Combo
4 Cell, 29Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery

    ACCESSORIES:
    For Celeron® M Processors - Dell™ Wireless 1370 802.11b/g Mini PCI Card

    For €499.

Only want something for email, music, surfing etc. Is this good? One question I do have is whether it could take a broadband connection (I'm not too clever on cards on that)....thanks

    I personally wouldn't buy a dell,

go to www.laptopsdirect.ie & have a look in your price range, particularly the Acer models.

Think you will be pleasantly surprised.

  • thanks...will check out that link *edit* none seem to be as cheap as the Inspiron 1300??

You won't beat that price anywhere for those specs.

Yes, it will take a wireless broadband connection.

You have to take opinions posted here based on what they are - opinions. You will always get a mixed review on Dells, some pleople love them, some people hate them.

Personally, I have never had a problem with Dells over the years.
