Hey, I'd appreciate any comments on the following spec for an Acer Aspire 5051AWXMi:

It's selling for €699 in Limerick (or €576+shipping online). I've hammered away on the display model and I'm well impressed. I can't really believe the price...

I'm aware the RAM is small, but have priced an extra 1Gb at €140 on shop4memory.com.

    Some questions:
    • Is S-video/TV-out sufficient for watching movies on an LCD projector?
    • Will it run Mandriva 2007 / other distros?
    • Any known problems with ATI Radeon Xpress 1100?
    • Is the small processor cache (512) important?

    Thank you:)

I have found s-video to be of very poor quality when connected to my projector. I just use the standard VGA out which give a far superior picture. Most projectors (if not all) would have a VGA in port, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Don't know about the other two questions, but the cache does have an impact on performance. Bigger is better in this case, but to be honest, unless you are doing some serious computing, I doubt it really matters.

    SoundStore, at Delta Retail Park.

[sounds like something from a cartoon, d-d-d-d-Delta]

They won't price-match with websites though. I know physical shops have higher fixed costs than net retailers; but I offered to split the difference and they turned that down as well:confused:
