    Morning

So just bought a 32 inch hd lcd philps tv which has 2 hdmi ports. I want to work out how I can connect my dell pc to it. I have done some basic googling and see there are both hdmi pc cards or a cable from dvi to hdmi?

    any suggestions?

Does your graphics card have a DVI out is so just get a DVI-HDMI cable and your good to go.

You may have to route sound through alternate means like the RCA connectors (red/white). So get one of these to convert the 3.5mm output on your sound card.

You can of course purchase some graphics card that have HDMI outputs one or two I think even have a connection to route the audio through the HDMI connector.

Dont Philips hdlcd's have vga connections? you could get a dvi/vga adaptor, and vga cable, and use it that way

I have a graphics card with dual DVI outputs, Have vga with convertor attached to that, and the other end of the vga connected to my Sony hdlcd.

Well it is possible to get special converters that will adapt the VGA to HDMI but I do not know if they are worth the cost.

If you want a new graphics card this MSI 7600GT is the way to go as it has a HDMI out plus a SPDIF connection so you can hook up the digital output of your sound card to it & route the audio through the HDMI connector.

Want something slightly cheaper this X1600 Pro also has the HDMI connector and SPDIF pass through.

(Edit: Those are both PCI-Express graphics cards if your motherboard uses the older AGP interface forget about it)

    this is my pc

    http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx520/en/ug/sindex.htm

I have worked out so far that I need a "low profile" pci card and was looking at this one

How do I know if my pc will take pci express?

thanks for help so far I am getting there!

Your pc will not take pci-express, just pci. And you are going to need a half height backing plate as well, like this.

If it's PCI low profile only & you want DVI for HDMI usage then these two on Dabs are an option.

eVGA DVI FX2000 PCI low profile card (no low profile bracket & as far as I can tell it does not come with one in the box)

Edit: found a low profile DVI bracket for XFX cards on Dabs with a bit of luck you could combine that with the eVGA card to get yourself a proper low profile PCI DVI supporting card (if it fits).

Matrox DVI G550 PCI low profile card & bracket.

Edit: scratch that the Matrox card has a multiple display connector that supports DVI-D but does not come with the DVI-D output cable so you would need to get the LFH60->DVI-D cable then a DVI-D->HDMI cable in order to complete the chain.

One more option this card on Elara is another multi display one like the Matrox, low profile + low profile bracket & comes with the cable for DVI-D outputs so all you need is a DVI to HDMI cable and your set.

I put one of these into a optiplex Gx520 today for dual display support. I'll let you know how I get on.
