    Hi,

I recently picked up an LG 17inch LCD PC Monitor from Argos aver a week ago.
There appears to be one dead pixel close to the centre of the screen whcih has become pretty annoying.

I know its probably virtually impossible to get an LCD without a dead pixel or two but should I chance returing it and getting another one or will the store even entertain me if its only one dead pixel!

    What should I do?

Return it. One dead pixel in the middle of the screen will drive you crazy. I've had several TFT's and not one has had a pixel fault.
Argos also have a 16 day money back guarantee...you do not even have to give a reason.

    Quite from argos site:
    Returns and Refunds
We're committed to selling high-quality products we hope you'll enjoy using but we also know that, for one reason or another, there may be a time when you need to exchange or return something you've bought.

    If I change my mind?

    * That's fine. Most things we sell are covered by our 16-day money-back guarantee. Just return them to any store, unused in their original undamaged packaging, in a saleable condition, with the receipt, and we'll give you a refund.
    * If you don't have your receipt, as long as you have proof of purchase we'll exchange the item or give you a refund with vouchers.
    * If you'd like to return something we've delivered, just call us and we'll collect it for free. Your order number will count as your receipt.
    * We're sorry but some items like earrings, foot spas and dental products can't be exchanged or refunded for hygiene and safety reasons, unless they're faulty.
    * To protect your personal security, we are also unable to accept returns on some non-faulty imaging and recording products such as MP3 players and digital cameras.
    * Our 16-day money-back guarantee does not affect your statutory rights.

If there's a fault with the product?

    We've made it easier!

    * If you bring it back to us within 30 days with your proof of purchase, we'll give you a replacement or a refund.
    * If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair it or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.
    * This doesn't affect your statutory rights. .

Be aware there is an EU law regarding dead pixels and what is allowed. Your TFT would have to be classed at a certain level before 0 dead pixels is acceptable.

you can probably find more if you do a search for PSP and dead pixels.

Although the argos return policy should be ok.

I threw out the box so the Argos 16 Day policy doesnt apply although I'd like to see their customer services get the screen setup so they can try examine it for dead pixels!!

I had major issues with my PSP and dead pixels in the past. So much so, i even had a very active thread for a while....

most lcd products are class one.
therefore they have to replace it with a working one

Bought one of those Aldi (Medion) 19" TFT monitors today.
Has a dead pixel (stuck on Red) half way across & approx 1.5" down.

Not really noticable when browsing, but really annoying when using Putty (or any shell with a black background). Checked the specs, it's a class II pixel failure spec, so I really can't complain.

However, it's annoying as hell, would not mind if it was near the corners, but it's right at eyeline. The specs should take this into account & have regions or zones where no defects are allowed.

Dunno where you got this from as Philips, Dell, and Sony as far as I know class theirs as 2.

ISO-13406-2 is the guideline and I've attached a quick document on it.

Also they aren't dead pixels if they're stuck as one colour - thats called a stuck pixel and is more tolerated. Your chance of getting a refund is pretty slim, if you are using the pixel as the problem. Unless of course the CS agent that you talk to in Argos hasn't a clue about it...

so you didn't test the monitor and don't have space for a box for two weeks...

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download960.html Nokia's old freeware monitor test utility for windows, has lots of test patterns, but most importantly does R,G,B so you can look for those pixels

QFT, Class one LCD panels are MUCH more expensive and typically used in specialised environments such as medical radiology screens etc etc.

Unless it's specified and I have noticed on alot of websites and shops it is not, then they are accepted to be class 1, and no dead pixels is to be expected and you are eligible for repair / replacement
