Restore Default Shortcut Icons

weird problem on a windows 2000 laptop, all the shortcut icons on the desktop have all defaulted to another icon, ie they are all the same.

Right clicking shows the icon is set to the correct on eg a url has
the ie logo as its icon but thats not how its displayed on the desktop.
If you try to change the icon to another one nothing happens the same when u try to change back to the correct one. New shortcuts get created with the strange icon also.

The icons for recycle bin mydocuments etc are fine.

I thought i could just connect to the network roaming profile and copy the icons from there but they have also changed.

Any ideas. Like i said i cant just recreate them as the issue effects new icons also.

Edit: If i remember correctly TweakUI has a repair icon function but i don't think i can use that In windows 2000

You should be able to use TweakUI there was is my memory was not mistaken a Win2K version of it.

One other method is use Stardocks IconPackager just install the trial version as it has the feature to rebuild the icon cache.
