Can anyone tell me what actually happens at a midnight launch?

I mean is it good? Is it worth going to?

Is there any chance they would sell out, leaving me with no Wii for collection the next day?

Also, is there much standing around/queing? Can i just grab the console and get outta there?

Thanks for any info. Mine is prebooked there, but i don't know whether i should go or not...

I'll be heading along to the Game midnight launch on Dawson street (with pints beforehand of course). Sounds like it could be a bit of fun all right, and the Wii is safely preordered anyway :)

I assume, if you don't have one preordered at this stage you can forget about it til at least the new year?

Not necessarily. I would say you have a chance of getting one on or close to release by A; finding somewhere doing a first come first served grab-fest. B; Rigorously ringing shops on the Friday to see if they have any consoles left and when they will be selling off their incomplete pre-orders (no-shows). C; looking in "odd-ball" shops. Game and Gamestop will sell out, because that is where people go for these things, however the likes of Argos, PC World or even Tesco might have some still knocking around on the 8th (I don't know if they are stocking them to begin with, just an example).

Failing that, getting one before X-mas could be accomplished by putting down a pre-order NOW, and hoping that they get some extra stock/people don't buy and you get bumped up in the list etc...

I would be reasonably confident that you could get one before X-mas with a little commitment and effort, question is, is it worth the hassle.
