OK well people always slate places for bad service, so im going to mention good service :)

Placed an order for a Dell machine at 6.30PM today, Sunday. Got a call an hour later from a Dublin number, it was dell mentioning that I never ordered an OS to be installed. Quickly rectified the problem.

    1) Never thought they'd be working on a Sunday
    2) If so on a Sunday, would have expected a call from an Indian call Centre

The person on the phone said that the machine might even be put on the line tonight... That's pretty damn efficint! Thumbs up Dell

But the real question: How did you manage to order a machine without an OS? Didn't think it was possible as some form of XP is selected by default.

And I have to agree. The are very efficient.

It was a bit of a mess-up, which thankfully they fixed. I had left the default Media Centre, but also clicked for the free Vista upgrade. Then they rang me saying if I wanted the upgrade i'd have to go with XP. I told them I wanted to go with XP anyhow

The PC is a starter PC For my nephew, I reckon he'd get more use out of it with XP instead of Media Center... Thats what teh DVD player is for :)

Ya but people have been trying to order from Dell for years without an OS and you do it by accident and don't even want it!!

They rang simply because your choices had left a red flag. You could not upgrade without Xp home/pro(which is a little odd since media center is just Xp Home with a Custom GUI), so to take your money they needed to confirm. Lets discuss how well they treat you after they have your money. Remember, Dell's entire business strategy revolves around selling you a pc, not providing support after. Its always been a after thought with them. Even within the company.

I've owned Dell computers for 3 years and the only time I needed support from them was for a faulty power adapter. A courier dropped one at my house the following morning, very few questions asked.

Once they get your money the nice guy act disappears. They couldn't do enough for me when i was ordering my computer but when i phoned them about 2 days later to tell them i was getting nothing but a black screen on startup, things changed big time.
It took about five weeks to get them to collect my computer and change the faulty graphics card they had installed. I had to phone them almost all the time and my calls were going to India. I took days off work when they told me they would call on a certain day twice and no-one called. So i started phoning every single day until they eventually came out and took it away.
I even phoned the girl who took my order originally at one stage and she told me that everything was being taken care of and to stop calling. Her tone was none too pleasant. The complete opposite to when i dealt with her first.

As for their computers, well since the graphics card was changed i've never had a problem with it. We order nothing but dell computers at work and have yet to have a problem with any of them. They appear to be a good reliable machine.
