hello, i noticed from reading other posts that brown bottles are recommended for your beer (uv light...). i am planning to brew my own beer soon and have quite a collection of green and clear bottles, but no brown bottes. is there any way that i could use these bottles??????
    thanks...

There is nothing stopping you using them, it’s just that clear green glass will not eliminate the UV wavelengths and it could affect you beer.

The beer you bought in these bottles were never to be stored for any length of time and are usually turned over in the shops fairly fast. If you use them, store the beer in a cardboard box maybe with some black bags to keep out light.

One way around this problem in the future is to drink bottles craft/conditioned beer; you get a good beer and a free bottle. Hope it works out for you

Just keep it out of the sun. Buy a box, presto... you're done

Is there anywhere in Dublin where you can buy bottles for brewing beer??

I've been getting my mates (and myself for that matter) to drink Flensburger (website with a dodgy crimbo tune at the moment) beers so I can get the swing-top bottles off them. The beer isn't too bad either, so it's not an onerous task, just takes time to get enough together :)

Looks like nice beer. bottles are pretty sweet. I think Grolsch have similar bottles too.
Looks like ill just have to get my drink on and start to save the bottles :D

www.brouwland.com also do nice fliptop bottles (500 or 750ml) at a reasonable price. Delivery is a bit dear though (€50 for up to 30kg), so it's only worth it if you are ordering a load of other stuff. I got 10 bottles as "stocking fillers" to bring an order I placed with them up to 30kg and they're grand.

...a bit off topic, sorry :)

I priced up stuff in the UK where the postage was cheaper, but the products themselves were cheaper from Belgium. For example, I got 5KG of pale spraymalt for €28. If I was to get the equivolent weight from hopandgrape it would be 10x500g packs and works out to be €46. Similarly, 100g of Styrian Goldngs Hop Pellets was €3.36 from Brouwland, while from H'n'G it was €4.44. I'm so sad, I even did a spreadsheet to work out which would end up cheaper :D So overall for my particular order it did work out cheaper to go there, even though the delivery was €25 more.

(I do not work for them!! :D)

Having said all that, for small quantities I buy from the UK, in particular http://www.hopshopuk.com/ . They're very nice people, bt it can sometimes be a few days before they respond to the order. It's as if he only checks his mail once a week :)

    Next time I'll try hopandgrape!

I love to drool over Brouland's site but haven't placed an order yet. They do have very good prices on much of their gear and ingredients. Also cheapest price on brewferm kits (they're direct suppliers). Worth checking out and getting the free catalog if you haven't already.

Just placed a large order with hop&grape.... £17 carriage for 30kg is fantastic. One thing I hate about their site is that the basket only holds 15 items and then things mysteriously disappear. I had to do my order on a spreadsheet and email it to them.

Yeah, they sent the glossy catalog with the order, and a price list. It's like something off the top shelf for home brewers! Some serious hardware there! *fap fap fap* :D

It'd be worth combining orders if there were a few like-minded people interested in grouping an order to split the delivery cost. Same applies to UK orders. Would be a nice idea for members here or irishcraftbeer. I won't be placing an order to Browland for a while, but next time I'll ask about.

I'm in. I wouldn't mind stocling up on their yeast (cheap version of safbrew t-58), some belgian specialty grians, plus several triple kits.

Just got their catalog yesterday, man there is some gear in it! You can go from kits all the way to you own brewery.

When I started brewing I got 4 crates of empty Bulmers pint bottles free from the local. They really look great when you've got the foil and labels off and they last forever. Most pubs won't mind giving you a few - just ask!

I was gona order some swing top bottles from the uk for my home brew but decided it was to much hassle.!!!
Decided to go buy the Grolsch bottles with the swing tops instead.

I figure if I get a few mates over and have a grolsch night, I should have a fair few by the end of the night....

There sweet bottles!!! nd the beer aint bad either

Keep an eye out for Flensburger beer too. Their bottles are plainer than the Grolsch, and you can get 'em in brown too. I've had the Pilsner, Weizen and the Dunkel here, which is grand as they're all of the brown variety (the glass colour that is, not the flavour :))
