Went to see the latest Bond movie last night. Thought it was pretty good.

So, what's the plan now?.Are they going to start remaking the old bond movies with yer man Craig?

Might get a good response over at films (though this might be moved shortly).

I cant see them trying to out do sean connery.

I can, however, see this tread being moved to film. Possibly.

I doubt they'll actually 'remake' any of the old films. They'll get new stories.

I read somewhere that the next film is going to be more of a sequel (to Casino Royal) than any previous Bond film has been. i.e. it'll take place directly after the events in Casino Royal, rather than being another totally stand-alone mission.

It'll be interesting, because much of the appeal of Casino Royale was the story of how he became Bond, his journey from rough, uncouth marine to a character closer to the Connery version. If they're going to continue on this, we're surely going to see less of the harsh, gritty violence, and more of the slighlty camp, suave, sophisticated stuff.

As an aside, Tarrantino was dying to direct Casino Royale, would/should he be considered for the next one?

While plenty have shown interest over the years, I can't ever see a big name director getting to direct a Bond film. The franchise has always been controlled by the producers and if they were ever going to give an auteur a go they would have done it on Casino Royale.

TBH as much as I'd love to see how Tarantino would do a Bond film, I don't think he'd be a good choice. Like most auteur/filmmakers he just carries too much baggage, where as a hired-hand like Campbell doesn't have the same over-blown ego to carry into every film. Any attempt to add style to the Bond franchise would be pretty disastrous IMO.

Despite some initial reservations, I thought Campbell did a really great job with Casino Royale. I'm much more concerned about the script to the next one though. For a start they need to lose Purvis & Wade fast and hire a real writer to draft the whole film and not just a polish as Haggis did.
