CFLs for Christmas

I was doing a bit of Christmas shopping today and it occurred to me that it might be a worthy contribution to the environment if I were to add a CFL bulb to everyones Christmas package.

Then I thought of the environmental waste of lots of CFLs being thrown in cupboards, never to be used. Or worse, being considered to be a patronising eco-twat

    What do you think?

I think it's a good idea, but a word of warning, I just bought a CFL from B+Q used it this week and it is already dead!
It is a GE so I would have expected better really.

Agree, lock you up in a cupboard.

Bring it back. These things are supposed to last for up to 15 years.

Just found this in the Sunday Business Post

    http://www.sbpost.ie/post/pages/p/story.aspx-qqqt=IRELAND-qqqm=news-qqqid=19388-qqqx=1.asp
Domestic householders have a role to play in reducing energy consumption this winter, according to EirGrid. One energy-efficient bulb in one room in 2 million houses would save up to 200 megawatts of energy, roughly half a standard power station.

That's a huge saving without really having to give up anything! I think I'll proceed with my CFLs for Christmas idea :)
