Personally, I couldn't care less about some complete stranger looking at an x-ray of a naked me, if it means that I'm safer whilst flying. We should get this technology around 2012.

But the civil liberty groups are going to have a field day with this one!Is this a step to far...?

Don't they already have a version of this using infra-red ? seen a few IR sources in odd places near check-in desks before. ( sony or someone recalled video cams before because they could be put into nightshot during the day or something)

I presume whoever is operating it would get borred looking at willies and boobies all day long.
My concern would lie in the health aspect of those walking through the x-ray (assuming it is x-ray) and more importantly those operating the machines who would be spending all day close to it.

The $100,000 machines bounce low-radiation X-rays off a person's skin to produce photo-like computer images of metal, plastic and organic materials hidden under clothes, says American Science and Engineering.
I saw something like this a few years ago and it was stated to be using UV and IR light, making transparent things that are normally opaque.

if it gets me thru this current crap system of half witted goons on six euros an hour rummaging thru my shoes and bags looking for they dont know what.Or having to switch on a lap top and then wait around till it powers down again, delaying me even further, and NOT porving wether it is a IED or not.Or me having my wristwatch set off the too finely set metal detector.I'm all for it.
However like the "wonder technology" of the X ray machine of the 80s,it will eventually be defeated as well.I have worked in airport security and work in the security industry and I can tell you that any system can be defeated.Your weakest link is the person behind the machine.Unless you train them properly,to think like a terrorist and pay them properly.Things will still get aboard.

The machines they're proposing putting in are backscatter X-ray machines. They're supposed to give quite a high resolution image. The original software came with "figleaf technology" (not sure if they patented that :) ) to cover up your dangly bits (but not your potbelly unfortunately). The new software is able to swap your body with a generic manakin body while still allowing the operator to see what you're carrying.

yep i agree with that....the airport security as of today is useless because we can all see what they do.....covert security where you dont know what they are doing and when is what is needed....
