I went to charge up my laptop today in college because I was working on
projects that are due on Monday and Wednesday and the damn thing wouldnt
charge. High pitched beeping noise is coming from the power adapter.

    Anyone ever have this problem?

More importantly, anyone know where I can get a cheap replacement or even a
short term loan until I find a new one..

Im still under warrenty (another 3 years!), so will they just send me out a new
one? Sent me out a DVD RW drive because I was upset when I only realised that
my drive is a dvd/ cd rw drive. So im hoping they will send me out a new adaptor.

My Dell adapter killed itself about three weeks ago and the best source that I discovered was this guy in Hong Kong. I couldn't find any cheap ones on this side of the planet.

    http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Chinese-Link_AC-Adapters_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ3689144QQftidZ2QQtZkm

It cost €29.35 inclusive and only took 3/4 business days to arrive.

Well I got onto dell. Turns out the previous owner of this laptop also had the
same problem. The power adaptor broke.

They are sending one out to me. Should be here by Tuesday but its still such a
    set back work wise.

I just had the same problem today and found your post. I figured out that the beeping is indicative of a short in the wire. I found this out becuase my cat bit through the wire. I was able to twist the wire to relieve the short. I would imagine if you can find a kink you could cut the wire (your adapter is useless anyway) and re-splice it. That might do in a pinch.

I had a similar problem. Beeping hissing dell power brick for M90 laptop. When the output cable was wiggled the laptop would either start charging again or shut down immediately. I think the output harness was shorting out. Anyway, I fixed it and the instructions are at http://galenpowers.googlepages.com/galenpowers

I also bought a couple of extra power supplies to be safe. The one from Bright On ($35) is lighter but it started hissing in a couple of weeks. Ordered Dell branded supply ($40) from a web vendor and it seems better. I am a lot more careful when I roll up the output cable now.

If you are in UCD by any chance, some of the sockets don't work.I thought that my adapter was broken last week when I tried plugging the adapter into several sockets in the UCD library. It turned out that the sockets were the problem.
