Making new friends

I've come to the conclusion that I need to get out there and meet new people....preferrably other girls my own age (mid twenties)...I moved away from home for a job. Until now it was okay, I had a couple of housemates that I got on very well with but they left for Australia a few weeks ago and I've been lost ever since.

I live in Maynooth but I think meeting people here is almost impossible, if you're not a local or not in college it's hard just to go up to talk to people and there isn't really any societies outside of the college. So maybe I should turn my attentions towards Dublin.

So basically I'm looking for advice...how to make new friends in a place where you don't know anyone?

Join a group in Dub that does things you like to do. Even though you are no longer a student, go to The Big Tree on student night, and like places. Do Boards Beers, which should be coming up in December.

I was kinda in the same situation as you. Just join a club. Its making the effort that counts more than anything else. It'll stop you getting into a rut

    :)

Ha ha...I'd collapse after half a mile! :D

my first run i collapsed after 100 metres, i'm serious. did 2 marathons since!

the best thing about the running is you get a rush of endorphines which makes you feel confident, which helps you make friends...

    have you any interests?

i thought of another idea, i did a language course a few years back, and i met a load of cool people and we would go out after and it's been a few years and we are still in touch!

If youre not the athletic type (points to me... YAY :D) There are big hobby communities like Games Workshop, and you'd be surprised that its not just for younglins': Many people get into it for lifetimes, and a lot of them are Married couples and whatnot...cray-zee.

    Alternatives are everywhere friend ;)

Find people with the same interests as yourself. Apart from the boards beerage, boards also has a soccer team. Maybe get involved with a kick around with some of the delightful chaps involved there, forum under Sports->Soccer->Boards Team. Good luck. :)

Right. Having one common denominator helps you sort what type of friend you like. It also makes the 'finding' easier.

Join a stamp collecting club. You don't need any interest to even be there. It's where all the pickups go on :p

I'm just giving my honest opinion in a lighthearted way in this thread. Will I get banned for posting this?

When you consistently do it across a couple of threads, then it is a problem. If you want further clarification, please PM and I will be happy to discuss it with you. Please don't reply on this matter as I don't want to clutter the thread anymore. Take it up with me, or any mod, via PM

We had one last saturday night, I have to say, it was fantastic craic and I had a ball. Am only recovering today.
There is an Events forum under the System menu at the top right of your screen. We probably won't be having another one for a little while though.
