Maybe I'm being naive here, and I don't want to go down another conspiracy theory road but I'm really beginning to think that results of photo finishes are being leaked before the official result. I've seen it a few times before but an example today from Lingfield is fresh in my mind. It looked from the live pictures that Shade Cozy had beaten small stakes on the line, every man and his dog must have thought that he had just go up to win by a nose. Not everyone evidently as there seemed to be some who were willing to sweep up shortish prices about small stakes, crazy - unless you knew the result.

    Any opinions?

I would say yes that some results are being leaked before the official result, cant speak for Lingfield but I witnessed it at a certain dog track in Dublin one night, where a well known punter at the track ran the line and hit most of the bookies for evens after recieving the billy.

    I'm sure of it.

When there is a photo finish going on, the market remains open on betfair for people to back/lay the two selections. Numerous times, I have seen the prices dramatically change (all of a sudden), and the money on the eventual winner getting vacumed up - BEFORE the official result. I'm not sure if it is done with laptops at the course, or how it happens, but I have seen it more than once.

Years ago (before all the TV stuff) a friend of my fathers used to actually take the photograph at the line (In the 1950s), and develop it later. He would often have to telephone the result to the papers, and by all accounts he was bribed by layers/big punters left right and centre.

I'm sure there are a few yards added to his tales over the years, but Id well believe there is some truth in it too.

In fairness all we can do is speculate fade. It's anybodies guess, but you can be sure it has happened at some point. Whether it happened today is anybodies guess, but is there really much benefit from it happening? I mean it's not really feasible for people to wait about for a photo finish to make money by having the inside info on it.

Sure, the ideaology behind it is feasible, and maybe it does happen, but I just can't imagine John saying to his mates "Lads if there is any photo shots at Lingfield today I will give you a shout and tell you who to back on betfair." It seems a bit far fetched to me, but maybe that's just me. :o

100% in agreement with you. I had a small fortune on Shade Cozy today, despite it's draw at 11, I still thought of it as a banker.

Small stakes was 2nd F and was drawn 2, if memory serves me right, and was, at 5 or 6/1 the main danger.

Over the first 5F small stakes ran well, and was 1l-1/2l better than Shade Cozy going into the last F. I was watching the 'in-running' betting, and as it happens ATR.

"Photo" was called. The in-running betting, which allows betting on the outcome of a photo finish, was 1.05 on SC and 12.00 on SS.

BEFORE the offical result 2 things happened. ATR commentator therorised that SC had won. The odds on SS literally lashed from on to lay at 1.01.

In short, yes F2B, it was leaked. I also think that it was a dead heat, I'm biased I know, but looking at the photo......
