Please help. I just got a letter in the door saying I've an interview for the PGCE Primary in Liverpool Hope next Wednesday.

Has anyone done this? If so please give me some advice.

There's a written test - what does this entail? Is it difficult?
There's an ICT test - what is this about?
Reading from a child's book - do you bring your own? What sort of resources can you use?
Individual interview - what types of Qs are asked?

Please help. I think you have done this Trotter, am I right? I'm panicing so any advice much appreciated!

Yes I did the Liverpool Hope interview, and was offered a place. (I took Hibernia instead).

Rule one. Panicing is a waste of time.. because when you finish the panic, you'll be standing in the same spot you were when you started.

Now.. reeeeeellax. The interview process is easier than teaching is so if you think you're up to being a teacher (which you do) then you'll have no trouble with the interview. Dont let too much nerves ruin what is a perfectly good you!!

Do not take what I say here as gospel because the interview may have changed since I did it last year.

Written test.. for me was a "write an essay on...." a general education topic. Nobody in the room looked at it and gulped.. so neither will you. You'll be able to do it.

ICT.. More of an audit of what you're able to do in ICT. i.e. are you familiar with PC's, software such as MS Office, etc. Theres some techhie stuff in there but thats just for the nerds that apply so the college knows how many PC Whizz kids are there.

Reading from a childs book.. We had to bring our own. I read from Harry Potter, just one page of it. Try to finish on an item of suspense.. ie leave the interviewer wondering what happens next. Be VERY expressive with your voice. Read the application instructions they sent to make sure that you need
your own book. I didnt bring any other resources for the book, but that was because I felt I could pull it off with the different voices anyway.

When you've read the application instructions once... Read them another 20 times. Don't be so nervous now that you dont bother reading the instructions they posted to you in a calm way.

Individual interview.. all about you.. why you want to be a teacher, what experience have you working with children etc. What is it about you that would make you a good teacher etc. Big yourself up.. you're going to make the worlds greatest teacher, you know that... but you need to tell them that, in a measured, confident but not know all kind of way.

You arent afraid to learn new things.. in fact you'll be doing that every day of your career.. wont you??

You get my drift anyway. Good luck with it.

Please dont panic.. just relax, have some tea, be happy you got to the interview stage! , do yourself justice.. and RELAX AGAIN.

Im changing the I NEED YOUR HELP part of the title to "Some advice required" because its less panicy.. and you need to be that way too.

    Calm. Cool. Confident.
