    Hi all

My friend asked me if I know of any club (prob in Dub City Centre)that'd be good to train and learn weapons in. Particularly the Bo. He poxed his knee up before, so is wary of training that might potentially reinjure it.

    Thanks

    Patrick

Theres a few escrima clubs around who do weapons a plenty, warriors escrima just off molesworth street and doce pares off pearce street. My knee is totally gimped right now and im still able to train/spar so it's a decent option for him

Hmm bo? you won't find many places teaching six foot staff, mainly cos it sucks lol. The longest weapons in escrima is usually a four foot staff, unless you include the whip :D . Both are pretty rare though

there's also kendo and iaido in dublin. And the tai chi guys in UCD do weapons too, they might do the longer staffwork

    Hi,

The Bujinkan contains all Japanese weapons including bo. you can tell your friend to check out www.bujinkan.ie for a club near you, arrange a visit and watch a class and chat to the instructor about training with injury's.

The study of the bo was a major part of last years yearly theme and it's anything but boring!

Knee's are very important with all weapons in the Bujinkan but training is such that you do what you can comfortably. I had an instructor once who damaged a joint and all his training easily allowed him to adapt - sort of handy for "fighting" - and it's built into what we do.

    Hi

Indonesian Silat is a weapon based system. In blades there is pisau(knife) Pendang(sword) Keris, Kunjang (Javanese Blade) Cabang (Trident balde) Kermabit (curve blade) to name a few. In wooden weapons there is Kanching (pocket stick) stick (eskrima size) single and double and staff. Training also covers the use of various aspects of clothing to be use as a weapon. All this is blended into a empty hand system that works in all ranges of combat. There is a clip at start of our website which has example of the weapons www.silateurope.com. We classes in Lucan, Firhouse, Walkinstown and we have silat classes starting soon in the new oneescape gym in smithfield and a new course in South city center in New Year. The walkinstown club can easy be reach by the Luas line only 2 minute walk from Kylemore stop. If any of this helps send me a private mail. There is also a weapon seminar on staff and kunjang next weekend in Firhouse. There are only 4 places left of the 40 so you more than welcome to any of the classes or workshop.

    Liam
