Massive mistake. Whether you call or not now is just a guessing game really. Personally, I would fold and wait for another opportunity and do it properly/ wait for nuts. Call is a pure gamble. Again massive mistake to check the turn.

Bet the turn, call as played.

    Turn off caps lock.

Because we have a hammer lock on the hand and I'm not afraid of any card, if he has a gut shot and hits it good for him

I would only do it against people who I think are aggressive enough to float this flop or people who love to bet rather than call

Given the info in the orig post that he loves to call down I would make a small bet on the turn to set up for river push

definately bet the turn as played call.

But he calls our pot bet on a very dry flop. I dont bet the turn to protect our hand but to get money into the pot. If he has called the Flop thier is no reason he will not call the turn.

I think the fact that the turn brings a draw is even more reason to bet big on the turn as a scare card on the river after we check the turn may mean he won't put anymore money in the pot.

We don't have a lock on the hand, and he's called our flop bet so there's little reason why he should fold the turn, by betting the turn we can build the pot for a shove on the river.

Im never worried about a back door flush draw in a 3 bet pot when the Ac is on the board

I bet this turn fairly often too, with the same reasoning - to get money in. Im not suggesting it is the best play - I was simply saying it can be the right play sometimes depending on the opponent and stacks, and not a massive mistake as suggsted by another poster

FWIW If i checked the turn I would often check the river too if he checked behind

check the flop, bet the turn.

I would bet the turn 90% of the time here, but nobody's mentioned the fact that the OP's weakness on 4th st induced a very profitable bluff.*

    *usually.

edit: after looking at OP's post below, villain was a donkey of the highest order

I think you have it wrong.

Given the info in the orig post, I would bet the pot or maybe even just shove here.

result i called the shove and he had the unlikely holding of
    Jc 8c
should have bet the turn but the result would have been the same as once he had a club draw and a gut shot he was donating his whole stack

i checked the turn because i wanted it to look like the flop bet was a continuation bet -and the villain would usually try to take pot away on turn
with 2 pair or any ace
--my thinking is prob slightly flawed here

Your line would be good against an aggro floater type guy.

It sux against a calling station. Just bet/push the turn.

its good to be playin against guys like this but be prepared to be frustrated beyond belief when playing with a super donk. 4/5 times youl stack this idiot but the other time he could drive you on tilt

Another reason you should have bet the turn was to build the pot, it's not big enough for him to get All-In on the River yet, hence it needed building, these sort of hands it's important to stack the opponent and that was the best way.
