    hi lads,

recently i lost all of my data on my 250GB external HDD, i used a program called GETDATABACK, i got all my files back and retrieved them fine. But all my MS word documents etc are corrupted (they all stay at the original size) but when i open em up all i get is boxes, my music all retrieved fine until i clicked on a song and it wasnt the one i wanted, all my song name are mixed up, and i cant click on any applications anymore.

Can anyone out there help me?? is it a lost cause or can something be done??

If file have the wrong names etc. The recovery software might not have done a perfect job, you might just have to see what files you can still use and forget the rest

Might be possible to rename the music files using the mp3 id3 tags using software like below
    http://www.tucows.com/preview/335140

Are you using the correct version of word to open the doc files? is any of the text recognisable? might look currupt if opened in something like mswrite. If the files are currupt, you might be able to open them in something like mswrite and get the raw text from the documents, any formatting will be lost

did you recover by saving the recoverable files to a different drive, if so try a different application

if you recovered to the same drive, when you recovered 1 file it would have corrupted the next

    sorry :(

Try to find a software named Final Data Enterprise Edition. It's pretty expensive at $600 but it can do its job well. You might be able to download a demo from the official site that shows you how many files it can recover. However, these recovery softwares can't recover files that are not located in contiguous sectors. Meaning you should hope that your drive was defragged regularly. I remember hearing there was a software that could recover uncontiguous files too but sadly I forgot it's name :( Good luck mate!
