Buying a bike soon in Dublin

I'm moving to Dublin next year and will be searching for a reasonable city bike. I returned from Dublin to the states yesterday and didn't get a chance to visit as many bike shops as I wished (City Honda and the Harley shop were closed monday).
From my conversations with most I determined a good bike would be a Honda Bros 400cc.
I've had little time to fully research this bike and wonder 1) Who the best dealer to buy from is. and 2) If Honda still makes the Bros or reasonable facsimile and 3) I'm still somewhat confused as to weather I can ride on my US motorcycle license or would I need to immediately apply for the test and then be limited to a 250cc or smaller bike.

    Sort me out please!

The closest thing to a modern bros is the Deuville Tourer - not exactly a Bros but has the 650 bros engine (modernised).

The Bros is a grand bike, I drove one for a year and a bit. Should be quite cheap second hand. Private Sale should get you a bargain, especially at this time of year.

As for your licence, I don't know for sure, but if you have to get an Irish provisional then you will be restricted to 25kw (33hp) rather than engine capacity.

Thanks. I saw some nice used Bros for sale. Do you happen to know the hp of a 400 cc bros?

And.. do they make hard boxes or a rear box for the Bros?

    The 400 bros I had was "33" bhp ;););)

That is what the shop should put down.

I think they started originally closer to 40 - they are twin sparks, but I'd say they are closer to 33 at this stage.

You have to rev them a lot to get the power though - torque is okay.

As for back box's, plenty of couriers have them - at the very least bungied on. I'm sure there is something that will fit.

    I used a tank bag.

Certainly in the UK you can drive on your American licence for 12 months, provided you are normally resident in the US. My first drivng licence was from Texas but that did not count as I was still resident in the UK. From memory your licence will be valid in Europe for 12 months.
