Hi , I think I read this on LOSTPEDIA , one theory of the black smoke was that
it could be a load of nano machines ?
this seems very similiar to the book by micheal crichton PREY ?
    anyone read it ?

Im surprised i haven't heard more about this..

I'm pretty sure that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse (possibly among others) have said it ain't nanobots.

Whether they're to be believed or not is another story, but nanobots are certainly plausible at the least.

I thought that was said to be false by the producers, I could be wrong though. That book was about an outbreak at a nanomachinery lab with the nanobots taking over the place and taking the shape of researchers if memory serves me right. I think I read it a while back.

yes it was a pile of monkey poo, but I just think its a good idea to have the smoke turn out to be that, as it has scientific background.

Im pretty sure that the theory that its nanobots has been rubished by the producers... sorry

Nanotechnology is the science of substances on the nanoscale level (10^-9m, 1 billionth of a metre), however the study of microscopic machines is sometimes incorrectly interperted as nanotechnology, microscopic machines would come under microtechnology or micro engineering. In has been cited around Lost and within The Lost Experience as a popular theory to explain the monster. The producers have repeatedly refuted this theory - see this podcast for one such denial. However numerous clues have pointed to the theory, suggesting its relevance for Lost fans, much like purgatory.

The micrometre is a unit just like the nanometre.
micromachines would be robots on a micro scale.
nanomachines would be robots on a nano scale.
nanomachines are just one section of nanotechnology

That sentence would make for an amazing song ...

don't always believe the writers and producers. they said that the hatch wasn't what it turned out to be in the end and when confronted they said they wanted people to speculate over it to give them inspiration so you could be right, the problem is we really won't find out for another long while:(
