Hopkins fights on

    His come back is official!
Bernard Hopkins has confirmed that he is officially out of retirement and that boxing needs him. It can only mean one thing: that the Executioner really does want to bring his axe down on one of the four heavyweight champions.

It is the only goal remaining for Hopkins. A record 20 defenses of the middleweight title were in danger of being tainted by two losses to Jermain Taylor until Hopkins decided the only thing to do to cement his legacy was to take another fight he was not certain of winning.

He did that by stepping up two weight divisions to outclass Tarver, the universally-recognised light-heavyweight champ, in June.

But not even that, it seems, is enough to allow Hopkins to rest in peace.

Hopkins is ready to invade the land of the giants, where he has seen two smaller men of his generation - Roy Jones Jr and James Toney - both succeed. Toney is still there and now preparing for a rematch with Nigeria's Samuel Peter on January 6.

A fight with James Toney (if the overweight motor-mouth beats Peter) at heavyweight would be interesting. But apart from that I think Hopkins is biting off more then he can chew by fighting in the heavyweight divison. All off the current champions, Nicolay Valuev, Wladimir Klitschko, Oleg Maskaev & Shannon Briggs are all too big and powerful for Hopkins IMO. How do you guys think he will do?

i believe he has more talent than all of the above-but as stated the extra weight could go against him-but also the speed advantage he has can go for him-i'm betting on hopkins! :D

He said if he can't get a shot at a heavyweight title he'll go for a fight with Calzaghe to stop him breaking his own record.
I think the latter is a much wiser option. He just doesn't hae the natural power to compete with any of the current heavyweight chamipons
