I'm worried about this. I wonder if I should replace the remote straps with something stronger????

We all could just sellotape around the straps prob not comfortable but who knows

This thing really pisses me off. If you're swinging the remote around like a fool and trying to send it into orbit, then yes, the strap may not hold. But if you use it properly, with more subtle flicks and motions (as it was intended to be used) I'm sure the strap will be more than sufficient.

Do these people even have opposable thumbs?

I'd seriously hate to be out on a golf course or a tennis court with people like this.

Nintendo seems to have covered themselves on this. :)

For example, in Wii Sports bowling, the proper way to let go of the ball while bowling is to release the "B" button on the Wii Remote—DO NOT LET GO OF THE Wii REMOTE ITSELF. If you are having so much fun that you start perspiring, take a moment to dry your hands. If you use excessive motion and let go of the Wii Remote, the wrist strap may break and you could lose control of the Wii Remote. This could injure people nearby or cause damage to other objects."

Fair enough they have it in writing how it should be played, but when the ads show people waving about like spastics it's not all that shocking that some people follow suit thinking that's how it should be played. Nintendo aren't promoting Wii as something you sit back in your chair with and gently move from side to side, they are showing people bouncing about and waving all over the place. I think it's pretty disingenuous to portray a product one way on screen and then telll people you're not actually meant to use it that way after they buy the poxy thing.

Penny Arcade did a skit on this as well.

Jumping around is fine, but if you're stupid enough to use this amount of force of course its likely to break.

But I do agree that the wrist strap is a bit too flimsy.
