    ... is awesome.

I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do, but it's pretty much all I've been playing for the last 2 days, my "ecosystem" is coming along quite nicely.

Has anyone else got it? Should be out here on friday, go buy it!
FYI the US version is region free (the bonus disc isn't, but that doesn't really matter, nothing interesting on it anyway).

I had a five minute bash at it last night before I had to go out

Typical classy Rare presentation, look really nice

can't wait to get into it

it's some good light hearted fun and i love it , that is when i can get the kids of it so i can play .

shame about the bonus disc though i was going to watch it with the kids but it's region locked :(

Yeah, its pure class, addictive as hell.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,249 ✭✭✭✭Kinetic^

Played it a bit, put about 2 hours in. Alot going on at the same time so you got to be on the ball.

Probably not something I'll put much time into but it's a bit of crack and something different.

They have the US version alright, out of stock though last time I looked.
Plus there is the worry of getting caught for tax now with the government being ****s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

Videogamesplus.ca are out of stock (back order).

Got mine from them, normal post, no tax/customs, and really really quick for some reason.

If anyone wants any fudgehogs let me know :) Just done breeding loads of them and I'll probably get rid of them to make space for newer animals (mmm deer)

I've only managed to breed those worm things........if I were breeding with the ladies I would be way more succesful :p How do I make the other pinatas get jiggy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭Karmafaerie

MS are sending me a free copy of this as part compensation for all the sh*t their customer support gave me!
Of course, this will arrive in a few days, but it's gonna be two weeks untill I get my console back!:(

Hover over the animal and press Y for info. It'll show the romance requirements. For instance the mice need to eat a buttercup seed and have a mousehouse in the garden. Once you meet both requirements your mouse is good to go.

Sometimes even if both requirements are ticked the animal might not get the little heart. Could be the garden is too crowded, that they're unhappy, or it's just the wrong time of day.

Hmmm, a bit of effort required I see, how do you know which is the daddy and which is the mammy? :p

Heh, doesn't matter. The sick part is once they have a baby, and it is fully grown, it can mate with either parent aswell. Lots of inbreeding, but they don't come out all deformed so it's okay.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,249 ✭✭✭✭Kinetic^

Yeah I was shocked at that  I just presumed the garden was based down in Cork :p

Just ordered the special edition with a free faceplate off ebay for €46.
Not gonna ship til Monday though which is a bit suspicious but he confirmed in a mail it was the US version which is region free.
He's also selling a bundle of RB6:LV and SP:DA for ~€84, seems like good value and lots of stock of both.

I was considering this as my next 360 purchase, but there were quite few things in the Siliconera review (http://www.siliconera.com/index.php/2006/11/21/growing-a-garden-in-viva-pinata/) that put me off, so I think I'll buy R6LV instead.

I got some horsetachios last night :)
And a macaroon. I'm about to get me some cinnamonkeys too.

This game is really really good

I got myself up to level ten last night

built myself a little pond, and I've three of my species mating away

So whats the idea of the game?? What are you aiming to achieve in the game? Is it like Animal Crossing? I have Animal Crossing on the DS but I'm not too pushed on it. Gonna pick up something today though. Was thinking of getting THP8 but I could pick this up as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

Animal Crossing is the closest thing people can come up with to compare to, but I don't think that's totally accurate. I would say it's more like Theme Park or Theme Hospital. A lot of people didn't like Animal Crossing because there is no real point to it, and a lot of the time there is nothing to do, you have to find things to do. Viva Pinata doesn't really have that problem.

The idea is you start with a garden, totally bare and wrecked. You fix it up, get the soil ready, put down some grass. That starts attracting animals. First it's simple ones like worms and mice, then the further you progres, the "fancier" the animals get. Having worms in the garden attracts birds. Having carrots in the garden attracts rabbits. Having rabbits in the garden attracts foxes.

To attract the different animals you have to meet certain requirements basically, it's mostly about arranging your garden to lure them in, then make them residents. Then you can breed them. Essentially it's about setting up a viable eco-system. That sounds boring, but it isn't. I definitely think it's more along the lines of Theme Park, the way you have to balance out everything to make sure everyone is happy.

In a nutshell the idea is to attract the best animals you can, and make your garden impressive. Check out EG's review. It helps that graphically it's quite nice, it's the most colourful game on the 360.

It's awfully addictive though. I've been playing it for hours on end. A few times I've wanted to "play for a few minutes" before doing something else, but get so distracted I can't tear myself away. Hang on I'll just make these two horseys breed. Oh wait no I want to get that bear in the garden too.

You've pretty much nailed the reason I'm not to keen on Animal Crossing. Also I love theme park. Getting 2 new games today so might pick this up. Thanks for the explanation of what you do in the game btw. Cleared it up for me :)

If you do get it, send me a PM aswell. Might shoot some animals your way at the weekend in a crate to pretty your garden up a bit. I'm making my deer (doenuts) breed like there's no tomorrow, so should have some spare (and they're so cute!).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,300 ✭✭✭CiaranC

Im thinking of getting rid of all the needy, pesky animals and just turning my garden into a nursery for fir trees.

    1. Dig hole
    2. Plant Fir tree
    3. Water a bit
    4. Harvest
    5. Profit! 600 coins a pop! 50 a day @ 600 = 30000!

P.S. Please send me some deer too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

Start a second garden! I've been growing chillis (with fertilizer) for money in a second garden. Quick and easy.

You can have a whole bunch of gardens, and the money and experience is shared across them. You can have a second money-making garden that is seperate from the first. Great way to make money, and doesn't take up precious animal-space.

Send me a FR later Ciaran (my GT: psychokitten), and when I'm done with my deer I'll send some your way.

I've got a whole pile of doenuts (deer) and cinnamonkeys, send me a FR and a message, and I'll send you a crate with 2 (of the one you want)

Ah, sounds good then. The video up on marketplace surprised me, it killed any doubt I had about it being 'not strictly for kids'.

    So, might pick it up.

I tried to get it in Smyths in jervis st tonight. They had promo copies on the shelves but when I went to buy it they had none in stock. Tried to blag a free promo copy but I dont think the girl I was dealing with even knew what a promo copy was. After a lot of time wasted trying to explain to the girl how the smyths trade in deal worked, I ended up taking Rainbow Six Vegas instead. I havent opened it yet though and i'm wondering should I go to another Smyths tomorrow and try and change it for Viva Pinata. Anyone have both games and think its worth swapping R6V for it?? I've heard rainbow six is really good but I'm not sure I want another shooter right now since I have GoW to keep me going in that department. Also I can get R6V from playasia for about €38 AND my cousin is getting R6V for xmas so I could get a lend off him. What do you reckon?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,249 ✭✭✭✭Kinetic^

They're both really good games. You can't compare GOW to R6:LV, as althought they're both shooters, they're different types of shooter.

Get viva pinata from play asia as it's region free. Or bring back R6 for viva pinata and get R6 from play asia.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭sarahn11

which version on play asia is region free?? gonna pick this up, but cant find the right version?? if anyone has got it off play asia, could they link the version they got pleasE?!?!? thank you!
