Xbox 360 noise during video playback

I am considering downloading a movie via my USA account with points purchased on Ebay. My 360 is noisy enough during DVD playback (although the fans do quieten down a bit) but it remains very loud when playing back video from the hard disc. It is one of the first Irish release ones. I read somewhere on boards that Microsoft were willing to replace early faulty 360s even out of warranty.

Is excessive noise an issue with early 360s?

    Thanks

Firstly, yes, most of the first batch of 360's are noisy as hell, I too have one which i got on launch day and at times it gets insanely noisy.

I find though when I go to watch a dvd the 360 turns off the fans at the back of the console and I cant hear it at all. Not too sure if that is the case when playing clips from the hard drive.

Secondly, it would appear ms are now shutting down fake accounts outside of the us so im not sure if you can still download from that account.

Its true that ms are replacing/ repairing faulty launch consoles but this is generally only if something is actually wrong with it, and most or nearly all replacments seem to be refurb 360's. I rang ms complaining about the noise got nowhere, though I didnt really force the issue.

My one concern is the hd-dvd drive coming out, will the 360 be noisy playing hd-dvds as appartly most of the work is done by the 360 and requires a serious amount of computing power to play them.
