Stuff like counterstrike, do these still work over the campus internet? I havn't used Steam since around this time last year, went to use it yesterday and couldn't get a server list at all. Have CSD blocked the ports for it this year?

It works, but not to outside servers. You should still be able to connect to Games Soc's DCU server. The ip is blinky.games.dcu.ie and there's usually a few of us online. Apart from that I don't think there's a way to connect to other servers. You could try mailing CSD about it too, they might be willing to open ports but I don't think it's likely.

Steam does work to outside servers.

From my experience, it often won't work over wireless.

    it's not supposed to AFAIK.
Steam is available on the res networks so people living on campus can play, but not the wireless network, cos, well, anyone can use it :)

You can connect to any steam game server from res. Although last year I had problems from larkfield where i wasnt able to connect for a few months. I think some of the res network subnets had the steam ports blocked for a while.

Ive been trying to get CSD to open the ports for BF2 on res as gamessoc have started running a Bf2 server. Havent gotten a reply yet though.

Try again but remember send up the exact ports you require and destinations if a request comes in just saying bf2 to be opened up it may not get logged.

    Seb.
